First Test Squad Announced

If Clarke is out then who comes in.

I would assume White or Marsh or Doolan.
Marsh just hit 3 sixes in a row to bring up his 100 - his form's ok. Still don't think he's throwing though.

With the incident that occurred today along with Doolans fail, Marsh would be the most likely candidate for the last middle order spot.

Warner
Rogers
Watson
S.Marsh
Smith
M.Marsh
Haddin
Johnson
Harris
Siddle
Hazlewood

Because I don't like Lyon.

(subject to fitness of course) I would go with

warner
rogers
watson
s.marsh
smith
m.marsh
haddin
johnson
harris
siddle
lyon

hazlewood vs siddle seems like the only actual tough one, no spinner but 4 frontline quicks and marsh/watson at the gabba ain't going to happen so once lyon made the squad he was making the first 11.

White is not a test player.

Doolan appears down on form.

Hughes was looking good til unfortunate incident.

Leaves s marsh who scored a timely ton.

What a fall from grace for this bloke. Batting at number 8, making starts, firmly pushing for all - rounder status 18 - 24 months ago. Now, the bloke couldn't get (the) runs in a dodgy chinese restaurant :D

Steve Smith is our form batsmen (with Warner) - should be batting 4 IMO

Personally - I wouldn't mind him trialled at 3 - but they keep picking Watson.

Watson will be an interesting case, as he is effectively picked as a pure batsman now Marsh is in the side. Let's see how he responds.

Marsh will get the nod for Clarke and probably rightfully so.

One guy who seems like a bit of a forgotten man right now though is Usman Khawaja. Dominated the ODD comp before injury kept him out of the first couple of rounds of the Shield. If he can string some good scores together he should be right in the mix for the test side.

David Warner
Chris Rogers
Shane Watson
Steve Smith
Shaun Marsh
Mitch Marsh

Brad Haddin (+)
Mitchell Johnson
Ryan Harris
Peter Siddle
Nathan Lyon

Shaun should bat 5; he's been put there by WA and is doing very well. Not to mention that Smith deserves a promotion without Clarke there.

Marsh will be in for sure.

Do we really have no better option than Watson at 3?

I tell you what another ton tomorrow and Joe Burns could force their hand.

Even if he scores runs I am not sure it will be enough for the selectors. There is a clear knock on Usman with his fielding, running between wickets and overall demeanor among other things. He may need to bide his time for a while.

Marsh will get the gig with Burns an unlikely outsider.

Doolan hasnt made a run since being dropped and needs to get back to making runs.
White wont play tests again for Australia and doesnt deserve to.
There are a few other young kids like handscomb who need to keep making runs for the rest of the season and might get a look in if that continues to next summer.

Rogers
Warner
S Marsh
Watson
Smith
M Marsh
Haddin
Johnson
Siddle
Hazlewood
Lyon

Watson will bat three. Marsh four and Smith continues his domination from five.

He doesn't need to move to four, and it's pointless anyway cause he'll be back to five once Clarke returns.

If Clarke returns.

Even then it's hardly pointless because that is where he'll probably bat when Clarke retires, which isn't looking a mile away.

If Pup is set to be fit for the 2nd test we could see a bat off between Marsh and Watson for the rest of the series IMO. If Shaun goes well and Watto fails it is an easy decision to drop Watto when Clarke is fit.

Knowing Shaun he'll score a ton then get 5-6 ducks after.
