Is this the first time in history that we do not play Essendon twice in the season?

Because some sides get a Free Win:mad:
They still have to play well enough to actually win. They'll have a fair advantage, buts it not over till it's over.

What happened when we played them in 1990? ;)
I remember 1990 very fondly, as I'm sure you do as well! I was going to mention that in the year between 1989 and 1991 we actually played them 4 times, including 2 finals, of course, but decided to leave it out!

Didn't we lose both home and away games?

Yes, we did. I was at the rd. 19 game, with my Essendon supporting brother and his (Essendon supporting) partner. I had to put up with their gloating on the long drive back to Adelaide, but I was totally confident after that game (we only just lost and I think we had a key player or two missing) that we would win the flag.

Hawthorn gave us an 83 point hiding late in the season, when they got eliminated by Melbourne in week 1 I felt comfortable, then when we thrashed Essendon in 2nd semi I was very confident.

I've had the utter misfortune of having a lifelong best mate who's a Hawthorn supporter (I'm 58), and even in many of our best years, while they were still in the race I've been nervous. Stretching back many decades, I just don't remember seeing us beat them all that often. Even when we had that fantastic win in the 2011 PF it basically cost us the next week, because it was that much of a struggle to get there!

My brother is a Hawthorn supporter. They have had the wood on us for very large periods... probably moreso than anybody. Which irritates me no end, and watching them win 3 straight flags is beyond the pale...

I hope to God they lose this year...

I'd put money on Bombers winning 1-3 games this season - lets just hope we aren't involved.

I don't even think they'll finish bottom 4. The remaining list isn't THAT bad. The stand ins will play their guts out as they'll see it as an audition.

The list is ok and will be competitive against the bottom 6 overall. It's the injuries that will kill them.

Look at a best 25 for them and then take 4-5 of those 25 out through injury and then it gets difficult.
