Are the pies good enough to sneak past essendon and Carlton and get to 17 flags first Or given improvement of Carlton and essendon will one of them get to it first? I personally think the blues might win 1 before Collingwood can get to 17

As much as it pains me to say it....I think Carlton will sneak to 17 first then Collingwood/Essendon. All will be on 17 flags together IMO

For me it is most likely (of all scenarios) that the pies win 2 more in the next 4 years or so, other wise i think the Dons will get there first, can see them being a strong, long term team

i just get the feeling that if collinwood win their 16th this year then they can say good bye to some players who might just go over to the GWS.

They will have served the club and taken them to 2 premierships why cant they reward themselves with a 'new challenge' and big pay packet ala gary ablett jnr.

i dont really think you could blame them and i wouldnt hold any ill feelings towards them

Jeez if given the choice between a shot at a threepeat or playing for GWS I know which way I'd lean

FWIW I think Carlton will get there first.

Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it
- George Santayana

The reason for the above quote? BigFooty has a serious problem seeing past current form when assessing future prospects.

No team having to conform to equalisational policies of the AFL has EVER managed to win three flags from a single core side. Collingwood have a monumental task ahead of them to win three flags from this side.

Whilst odds are reasonable that they can win another and get to sixteen, history would show us that the seventeenth is unlikely before the inevitable fall and rebuild.

So that would leave Essendon and Carlton to race to a flag and of course the seventeenth.

Just like to copy and paste a line for impact purposes:

BigFooty has a serious problem seeing past current form when assessing future prospects.

Never more apparent than the 'rate clubs lists' threads, which almost always come out resembling something akin to the ladder at the time. Whilst several people on this site are quite insightful, the masses cannot see past current day form.

Carlton DO NOT have a list capable of challenging for a flag prior to a rebuild. Essendon DO have a list capable of challenging for a flag prior to a rebuild.

Thus, to answer the OP, Essendon is the likeliest of the three to reach a seventeenth flag first.

Carlton or Collingwood. Every premiership side has multiple midfielders regarded as the elite of the competition. Essendon does not and will not unless they can trade some in and they would probably have to give up to much of their "amazing" young key position talent to do it.
