First week of finals times and days

They will have a Thursday night final purely for the extra TV ratings compared to playing on Sunday. It's also one of the obvious reasons they brought in the pre finals bye.

Probably the only reason. The integrity of the competition stuff is just BS

Based on today's results, I have changed my predictions (which I will probably do again next week, ha, ha).

Thursday night: West Coast (2nd) v GWS (3rd) Optus Stadium
Friday night: Richmond (1st) v Collingwood (4th) MCG
Saturday night: Sydney (6th) v Geelong (7th) SCG
Sunday afternoon: Hawthorn (5th) v Port Adelaide (8th) MCG

Surely such a game would not commence before 7pm WST, but given the lack of integrity by the AFL on everything to do with FIXturing, dont hold your breath.

When's the last time an AFL game commenced after 7pm WST?

Would’ve thought a Thursday night final would be a desireable outcome for an interstate final?

Allows the travelling side an extra day recovery due to travel. Assuming they lose to WCE, they have to back up in week 2 and play the following Friday/Saturday.

Personally, I would prefer the traditional set up of four finals over Friday night, Saturday afternoon, Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. That schedule makes for a very exciting weekend of football. When four games are stretched over four days, it loses a bit of lustre I feel.
