I think that sometimes people should look behind the onfield and remember this bloke is only human. Let’s have a bit closer look

Looked ok at times in 2020 when the crows finished bottom. Had some fine moments taking solid marks - also he was taught some hard lessons which is fair enough. For a key defender in a bottom team you probably tick him.

Then the off field. His father has a serious health scare and the virus impacts cross state travel. Kid doesn’t know what to do. Get a trade home? Stay? Lot going on. Terrible pre season and of course 2021 is a write off.

No more excuse ok - BUT - judge him as a 2nd year player now. Not a 3rd year. When the drafters make a choice they can’t know the unexpected off field stuff might happen. He probably needs another 1/2 year at least in Sanfl

Had an injury that hampered his offseason this year as well. All indications point to that we shouldn't expect to see anything stand out from him until several rounds into the season assuming there's no more issues for him.

Wouldn't you think you'd want to play him to try and get a 4th rounder for him?

I'd rather play key backs who have a future if that's our goal. After all, 4th rounders are piss easy to obtain if we need it.

Exactly…the only attribute he has of being an elite key defender is that he is tall and has a longish kick.

Every other attribute is realistically below average (kicking, speed, one-on-one defending, effort, polish etc)

Where as Murray, while raw and lacks polish, ticks way more boxes and wasn’t even drafted in his year.
Clearly you didn't read the draft recruiter notes.....hasn't developed as much as we've hoped.
Strengths: Intercept marking, reads of the drop of the ball, reads the ball early in flight, contested marking, marking on the lead, aerial marking, attack on ball aerially, one-touch overhead mark, closing speed, leap, clean at ground level, aggressive spoiling, reliable kick out in front of targets to lead onto, courageous, tackling, versatility to hold down key position posts at either end though looks at his best in defence

Oh dear…you clearly haven’t watched any of his SANFL games then!

Which recruiter wrote those notes?

Yeh you would think our drafters when drafting would have that list you mention above of all attributes required and if you didn’t tick the main ones required for your position then you wouldn’t get drafted . He doesn’t have these now so it’s unlikely he had them in under 18s regardless of how good his under 18 year was .

If we had those attributes he'd be an AA standard key back.
The rumours about his off field issues must be really difficult.
Clearly he hasn't developed them consistently to the AFL level yet but he still has those ability which made him the best KPD of his draft year and in the first few games of 2020 we saw his one grab contested marking ability.
