Best Fish n Chips - Fish Out Of Water, King William Road Hyde Park

... Pizza - La Romano which is on corner of Airport Rd and Henley Beach Rd or Saints Pizza Bar which is on corner of Grange Rd and Military Rd.....
Saints is the best "anglasised" pizza in Adelaide for my money.

Best traditional pizzas are from La Cassa Del Pane at St Morris or Il Forno Di Roma at West Lakes (IIRC they are owned by the same people). Il Forno Di Roma also has a cafe on Grange Road at Henley Beach.

the BEST Fish and chip shop in SA has gotta be hooked and battered in Victor Harbor!

BEST pizza shop is the caltex petrol and takeaway in Goolwa

And the BEST bakery is definately the original Goolwa Bakery on dawson street!

:thumbsu:

The fish and chip shop on Springbank Road, Colonel Light Gardens makes the best hamburgers I've been privileged to eat.

Ha! I used to egg that place when I was a delinquent teenager.
and now I get food from there once a week!

Best chicken and chips I have ever eaten.

The place is so clean as well, a lot of fish & chip shops have a very greasy feel. Not this one though, more like a hospital.

haha who eggs a fish'n chip shop? Sure as a 16 year old we went egging but we would drive around West Lakes on Saturday nights when Port was not playing ;)

Yeah, not sure why we did that tbh. We made our fair share of Cow fan egging runs too.

The best one was the BP on Goodwood Road. Used to run around from the alley next to the hardware store, egg it, run back. They used to get so angry but good god it was funny to go back there later and see the poor bastard cleaning it up. :D:o

We thought we were so smart that we got one of our mates to stand in the BP and film it. Much to our horror they knew everything about it, the number plate of the car we were driving, the school we went to etc.

I like Chicken Chef chips at Enfield. Best Chicken Salt goes to Top Deli in Mannum.
Best bakery well i'm cut between Yankalilla and Williamstown (friends own that one)

* Saints Pizza, cnr of Grange and Military Rd. Very good but discounts are very rare,

* Curry in a Hurry, Grange Rd just a few metres east of Saints Pizza

* No genuinely good chips around anymore, but passable ones with good chicken at Chicken and Seafood on Henley.

You tried the Stunned Mullet on East Terrace?

The only better fish and chips I've had in Adelaide were from Fish Out Of Water on King William Road.

Yeah, but I'm allergic to fish so it's only the chips I can judge it on and I didn't think much of their chips at all. Quite a while ago that shop (under a different name) was owned by a young Greek couple and was probably the best chicken and chips I've known. Mid 1980s I guess. Sigh!

I guess it depends on what you like in a chip. I quite like their chips.

This is actually what makes Sotos in Semmy Rd so good. They are one of the few places that still makes their own chips from proper real unpeeled unchopped spuds. They even have a sign in the shop informing patrons that their chips may contain 'eyes' etc because they use the real item, not that from a large frozen bag.

Love their chips, and if you pick the right fish, love that too. My best in SA at present.

That is vital and I'm delighted to hear it still happens. Will try it out this Sunday.

Be prepared to queue for a little while ;) and make sure its Sotos you go to, not the one across the road.

The chicken chef at Enfield is amazing.

Chicken Mania at gilles plains shopping centre also has superb chips. I had them for the first time last Sunday after a night on the gas and it was brilliant.

After a night on the gas you could be eating fried dog shit and it would still taste like the best thing in the world.

Well I tried them today and they were OK not great. But I do rate the effort to avoid frozen chips. I will try Sotos again for two reasons:
1] The place evoked nostalgia. It's like Aussie fish and chip shops from my childhood in the 60s, before all the American chain fast food places appeared.
2] I'll be interested to see if there are variations in the taste/texture of the chips as the seasons change.
