Not keen on starting a thread just for a couple of quick question so maybe you good people with good Fitzroy reference books may be able to answer these ones for me please?

Who were the players that went to the Bears from Fitzroy for the Bears inaugural season?

Who were the Fitzroy players who retired at the end of the 1986 season and was there a specific player who retired rather than go to the Bears?

Cheers:thumbsu:.

Bernie Harris & Chris Stacey.

One major retiree, the one and only Bernie Quinlan - 366 games, 817 goals and 1 brownlow. They broke the mould on this man!!

Nil on the retirees rather than go to Brisbane.

Who were the players that went to the Bears from Fitzroy for the Bears inaugural season?
We gave them Michael Gibson, Chris Stacey & Tony Spassopoulos. I think each club had to give them 3 players, who had played at least 1 senior game. Gibson had played 3 & Stacey & Spassopoulos 1 each. Most teams offered them players of that ilk. The Bears also helped themselves to Bernie Harris & the following season Scott McIvor. Daryl Cox also played for the Bears in their 1st season, after playing 3 seasons for Melbourne following his stint at Fitzroy.

Who were the Fitzroy players who retired at the end of the 1986 season?
Apart from the blokes, who went to the Bears, the following played their last senior games for the Roys in 1986:
Darren Bolden, Murray Browne, Michael Coates, Peter McCormack, Bernie Quinlan, Dean Turner (to West Coast), Brendan Ryan, Paul Tilley (to St Kilda), Graeme Williamson
Some of them retired, but some were probably just delisted. I doubt any of them retired to avoid moving to Brisbane.

Quinlan, Harris & Turner were the only 3, who played key roles in '86, although Tilley was useful. The others were just bit players at that stage.

Found my "whale"just bought the first 100 seasons on eBay. I can throw out my photocopied version my mum made for me while she was at work when i was still in high school.I joined the carlton library just to get my hands on the book.

mini bump...

in regards to the book "the other side of smith street", is it a book for both teams supporters or more for fitzroy readers, will buy either way but just wondering

in regards to who went up to brisbane for their first squad, a while back i worked out brisbanes first squad and had the following details for fitzroy. the 3 nominated transfer free players were, chris stacey (option taken), michael coates (not taken) & murray brown (not taken). two further players were signed up being bernie harris and michael gibson. if anyone else has further details it would be great to know them, or maybe lead me to another thread where it would be more useful?

Hey guys

Just finished Fox Footy's The Merge documentary via Kayo. I realise this is a sensitive subject for you, but I was only seven at the time of the merger, and found it quite insightful. Would've liked to have seen Hore-Lacy interviewed though.

I'm trying to find books on Fitzroy with any luck, is anyone selling any second hand?

Cheers

Mighty Eagles (and fellow East Perth supporter), there are always a few Fitzroy books selling on eBay.
I had a quick look and at the moment the following books are for sale:
Fitzroy Football Club: The First One Hundred Seasons, 1883-1983
Fitzroy: For the Love of the Jumper
Miracle Match: The Day David Downed Goliath, Brunswick St, July 6, 1963 (Fitz-Geel match)
Russell Holmesby's soon-to-be-released The Death of Fitzroy Football Club is also listed.

I’m accessing BF online so if you too are an East Perth supporter, that’s awesome [emoji1].

What’s Fitzroy: For Love of the Jumper like?
