Last time they played the hawks at the MCg in fitzroy jumper - Hawks had a big win.

Clarksons first as coach and I didn't believe it until 10 mins to go..

Love the old maroon blue and white jumper. Is that the jumper they wore to all those early 20th century flags when they were the number 1 club? It has a real aura to it.

I reckon Brisbane got it right with the V neck. Very Queensland.

I used to love the Port prison bars but you hardly ever see them these days...

Does this mean the Lions should wear the Bears guernsey in all Brisbane matches? I mean, the old Fitzroy jumper looks great and its great that they can wear it, but the Fitzroy jumper is represented in the current Lions guernsey and no old Bears supporters get to see their old strip.

It's not like the Bears have the same amount of history that Fitzroy do.

Would be nice to see us wear the Fitzroy once in Melbourne and the Bears strip once in Brisbane per year.

Would be a nice little nod to our past, but the point needs to be made that we are now the Brisbane Lions, who already have three flags to our name and we need to look ahead as a united team.

I think thats a good idea, because the fact is that The Brisbane Lions are a merged club.

I must admit I would like to see the Swans wear the South Melbourne jumper for their games in Melbourne , but that it because we are a relocated club, not a merger of two existing entities.

BLAFC is a merged entity, BB + FFC. It's not a relocated Victorian club. It is a partnership, if you will.

The club was around for 9 years, went broke twice and was a basketcase for all bar its last two seasons. Hardly comparable to the nine (???) flags and 125 years of history that comprised the Fitzroy Football Club.

Not this again. Fitzroy still exists, just not in the AFL, Brisbane honour their memory in the league (and fair play to them), "should auld acquaintance be forgot..."

Brisbane are a going concern in their 21st year and have 3 flags. Their fans have every right to be proud, and while the league might want to erase memory of their disgraceful shafting of Brisbane over the first 10 years, that mob fought their way into respectability against the odds.

I dislike the idea of a radical jumper change, it might be easier on a younger club but I wouldn't wish it on them again.

The Fitzroy deal was as disrespectful of Brisbane as most of the AFL's dealings with them.

It makes me laugh how little opposition supporters know about our club and the two clubs that made up our club. Then they go and think they know what is happening next year with jumpers and what's in the best interest of the Brisbane Lions.

There were very few old Bears supporters. Besides, the Eagles don't wear their original strip much either.

I heard back 4-5 weeks ago from someone involved with Fitzroy back in 1996 (might have been the president) when Brisbane wore the jumper against West Cost, that the merger agreement between Fitzroy and Brisbane back in 1996, Brisbane Lions would wear the Fitzroy jumper in all its Melbourne games, they have failed in there agreement for 11 years!

That's not quite correct. The original intention was certainly to wear different home and away jumpers in Brisbane and Melbourne, with the red Fitzroy jumper to be worn except that the 'FFC' logo would be replaced by a 'BLFC' logo. In Brisbane there would be a jumper modelled on the Bears jumper. However the directors at the time (three of them Fitzroy representatives...four if you count Mac Tolliday a Queensland based Fitzroy supporter) believed that one jumper would help unify the club. So after consultation with both Brisbane based and Fitzroy supporters the directors decided to model their jumper on the Fitzroy's pre-season jumper in regards to the use and placement of the 'Lion' and use maroon (both Queensland's and Fitzroy's colour) in place of the 'red'.

The original agreement provided for a minimum of six games to be played at Waverley, Optus Oval and the MCG. Howver one of those games usually has been shifted to Geelong, leaving the other five in Melbourne. In 2005, the merger agreement was broken with only five games being scheduled for Victoria. In that case the Fitzroy Football Club threatened legal action against both the AFL and the Brisbane Lions. They were mollified by the Lions agreeing to wear the Fitzroy jumper for another Melbourne game other than the Heritage Round, but that certainly won't be enough, if and when that occurs the next time.

Hopefully all those Roy supporters out there will get out to the MCG today to see the mighty Fitzroy guernsey go around once more!
