OK so the players moved on in 1996. That was 5 years ago.

I read that Chris Johnston is the only one flying the flag up in Brisbane.

Hawthorn took a couple of Brisbane 'Lions' and it took till last season for John Barker to be an 'overnight' success. Nick Chapman was delisted. to pop up who knows where.

Apart from that the only Hawk that springs to mind is Tony Woods, who came from Fitzroy via Collingwood.

My question is: Where are they all now ? There's a few at North and Primus at Port. Where are the others?

C.Johnson, A.Lynch, M.Pike (Lions)
J.Molloy (Coll)
T.Woods J.Barker (Haw)
J.Blakey (Roos)
S.Paxman, M.Primus (Port)
P.Broderick (Rich)
R.Warfe (Syd)

Was M.Dent (ex-WB) picked up in the draft?

I wonder if David Strooper will ever make a come-back at AFL level? Any thoughts?

Matthew Manfield was hard-done-by at the Tiges IMO. He was also hard-done-by at the Pies after a decent season on the rookie list in 1999. Playing over in SA now - perhaps a chance to get back into things with PA or the Crows?

If you're interested, we've started a thread on Shane Clayton on the North boards.

The other ex-Fitzroy player we picked up was Anthony Mellington and he was delisted at the end of the 1998 season. We also picked up....dammit....his name has slipped my mind...but I think he was the chief recruting officer for Fitzroy and, correct me if I'm wrong, I understand he was the one that first sighted players like Gary Pert and Paul Roos.

So its about 12 players left. Is that better or worse than the average ?

I had a look at the Hawthorn List from '96. It's probably a fair comparison as they finished second last (to fitzroy)in 1995.

Hawthorn has 10 players left from the 1996 list, but there are 5 (Hudson, Jarman, Barnard, Taylor, Robran) which are still playing with other clubs. Hawks have 5 from other clubs.

There has been a fair turnover of players since 1996. even with lists now at 38 thats 23 new faces, or almost 6 per year.

But the Fitzroy list was much younger than the Hawks one in 1996. Has this been too big a burden for the players themselves ?

How do other clubs compare ?

Nice try, Shins.

Neville Stibbard would be that fellow. I've noticed you also have another old Roy amongst your recruiting team in Graham Calverley, a former PE teacher of mine! (and probably Wally's for that matter!)

Neville Stibbard had a big say in recruiting Brad Boyd from Collingwood - a very good get - but Roos & Pert were long before his time.

North's move to pick up Stibbard was very shrewd. I'm sure he has helped them enormously.

Is Dale Kickett captaining Freo? He first played AFL for the Roys.
Ben Holland (is he still Richmond?) was also on the Fitzroy list, but never played for them.
Daniel Ward (Melb) was on Fitzroy's rookie list.
