Five Players Delisted

Should've explained myself better.

If those in charge already had their minds made up in delisting Ross, despite his form warranting a game, they didn't play him. If he had have played extremely well, there would be a large uproar when he was delisted, so thus they didn't give him the chance.

Just my $0.02.

That sound like conspiracy theory 101.

An uproar by who? Big Footy posters? He's hardly Keith Greig.

I'm sure there's nothing more suspicious here than a coaching staff who probably thought he wasn't up to the required standard.

It's bad luck for the lad, but hardly without precedence.

He's maintaining a vigil by his shrine to Ed, ensuring it's eternal flame remains IGNITED in today's stormy winds.

TOD has made enquiries into Eds post football ambitions. Handyman, butler, fluffer. Ed can take his pick.

Now that youve said that Urquharts really starting to bug me.
He needs to put up or piss off on his own accord.
Hes got himself a nice ride and i get the feeling hes taking the club and us for fools.

Your right. My old man always said a fool and his money are eaisly parted.

C'mon, Filth, you really should place some sort official Mod warning on the thread if you're going to post stuff that's this funny.

My sides just split. True story.

Have known about Ed for a little while, but have been keeping mum. Yes, the knee is shot. Has zero chance of standing up to the rigours of AFL footy, so it looks likely that he'll be calling it quits. He would have most definitely been on the list next year if not for the injury. All that's straight from the creamy confines of the inner scrotum.

Stay sexy, Ed. Have enjoyed your perennially under-rated work. Best of luck for the future. :thumbsu:

For a bloke like Ed who gave his all every time he put on the jumper to, go out like this after just starting to establish himself is a damn shame.

At least I will have two outstanding things to remember him by. Playing half a game with a broken collar bone with not once shirking an issue, and TOD's forthcoming contemporary dance performance titled Ed, which is comprised of uncoreographed, interpretive dance routines over two hours with a backing track of Right Said Fred's I'm Too Sexy on loop.

Talk about an over-reaction re: Ross.

You're not wrong.

Well a few such as Pykie et al insisted Ben Ross was the second coming a few months ago. I've always held the view that his poise, decision making and disposal at AFL level are just not quite up to it. Eddie Sansbury Mk II.

Seems the coaching staff agreed with one of us.

I just searched "Pykie" and "Ross" and found nothing like that.

Are you making things up to look cool on the internet?

And Ben Cunnington didnt look "up to it" in his first 15 matches at AFL level, people questioned why we picked him up etc.

Benny R got 14 games with us over what? 4 years, rarely got a chance at a run of games that would allow him to work on those AFL level deficiencies.

How on earth do you expect a kid to work on AFL level problems if hes not being played at AFL level.

Sorry KC but you didnt really think that post out.

I suppose the question is if he stays on the list whose spot does he take in the 22? If he cant break in then he is wasted in the 2s.

At least his form gives him ever opportunity to get picked up elsewhere.

You need more than 22 decent players to win a premiership.

No point keeping a player if he isnt going to get played, unless your talking about a VFL premiership?

I'm not on suicide watch, but I thought Ben did enough, all things considered, to get another 12 month contract.

I think Benny warrants consideration for retention based on a lack of opportunities due to injury, VFL game breaking performance, and a skillset for which we do not have an overabundance.

It appears obvious to me that he needed game time under his belt, as he improved greatly over the course of the season. I know, because I saw it with my own eyes. The football department, in their wisdom, have obviously deemed that this improvement has reached it's zenith.

I hope for Bens sake, and ours, that they are correct.

Just doesnt have a footy brain.

Hes an athlete with good skills who cant think far enough ahead of the game to have any impact, or panics when placed under pressure.

I was a little surprised that he was delisted as he had a few mates in the 2s that probably werent performing as consistently as him, be interested to see whether we target a specific type of player thats not in the Ben Ross mould!

oh well 3 out of 5 isn't too bad of a prediction from 07/08. I remember saying the following 5 will go big (in 2007 and early 2008 that is).

Leigh Brown - genuine superstar and match winner if used correctly.
Luke Delaney - Powerhouse fullback.
Levi Greenwood - midfield enforcer
Josh Smith - got a good feeling about him, don't look too unlike pietersen.
Ben Ross - my favourite, our Aker.

Yes because clearly that would be the net result.

It happened. If I could be arsed the posts could be retrieved. But I can't be.

There were a lot of people who thought Ross offered more. I always felt he had inherent limitations, despite him being a quality person dedicated to getting the best out of himself.

This is a fair point. I guess sometimes you only have a small sample of data and base of your conclusions on that.

Fwiw as a punter I'd have had no issue with giving Ben longer on the list. But I can understand why the club made the call and thought it was a slight overreaction through the board.

I thought KC's point wasn't that he'd be shit, just that the reactions to his delisting seemed a bit over the top. You can't conclude he'd be fantastic from those games either, and so we're left with training, VFL games and an assessment of how well his best might be alongside our needs.

I dont think Gav realises how hard it is to become a good AFL footballer.
In a strong team he could go alryt as the gameplan may cover for him but in the past 3 years hes been found out.
I cant believe he hasnt torn it up at VFL level or increased his fitness capacity to have a go in the midfield.
Cant understand how blokes try so hard to get drafted but when there dont keep up the hunger????

Gav's had a knee problem for most of 2011. Whilst it's been a bloody long time since he's wowed us, especially at AFL level, we should give him the same preseason we're willing to give others before we cane the bloke IMO. That's if he remains and avoids becoming a part of a trade. He does care and knows he's under the pump. It's up to him from here. We'll see if he's more carp than carpe diem then. Plus, it can't be easy for him playing at the top level with a minute sized cranium. Maybe it's the hair changes?

Is the knee problems niggles here and there or ongoing?
I remember the tackle on Ray and thinking what kind of footballer is this guy.
But since then weve been a poor side and Gavs been average too.
Just questioning if his cream rather than cake is all
