Five-star albums

Relationship on Command - Agree.
Atrocity Exhibition - Agree, just.
Grey Britain - I'd actually give Orchestra of Wolves a five instead.
Shape of Punk to Come - Yeah. Deserves a perfect ranking.
Lust for Life - Iggy is a hard one... Can't go past Fun House for peak IMO.
Otis Blue - Agree.
36 Chambers - Definitely agree, seems to withstand any fashion. Solid.
RATM - As a whole album, I'm not sure.
Raw Power - Yes.
Head Hunters - Agree.
Damaged - Not my preferred BF album but agree.
Relaxing With Miles Davis - Agree! Also Bitches Brew?
F#A# Infinity - Become almost so overrated it's underrated. Genuine perfection.
Rain Dogs - This is Waits finest album, it just has everything balanced perfectly.

Playing in the Band, Seattle, Washington, 5/21/74.
Live album by Grateful Dead.
Wall of sound era, vintage Dead.

I don't know if this fits here but I couldn't find a more appropriate thread.
Which ones have they missed? I can see a lot that I believe should be in there.
I guess it depends on who you survey. If you weren't around when the album came out you may not even know it exists. It's hard to keep up with what has come out just this year but most music enthusiasts know the really successful albums.

that's almost an impossible task. the top 50 would be the easiest, the rest would be a choice from thousands of equally good records.

i scanned the top 100 and didn't see this album which is definitely 5 star in my book and one of my all time favourites...it's all so subjective though.

Could easily include Leviathan or Crack The Skye. The best riffs are in Blood Mountain though, IMO

Agreed. I'd also chuck Emperor of Sand in there personally. I've more of a connection with Blood Mountain though.

Incredible album. Could probably put Alaska here too, but in terms of being a genuine classic with no dull moments Colors is their best. Some seriously good riffs, lot of nice little themes and motifs. Also somehow manage to incorporate some really random bursts, like the hoedown section on Ants of the Sky.

Such an epic LP.

Let me just get this out of the way. Colors is an incredible moment in progressive music and a 10/10 album without doubt.

The great Misdirect is even better though.

I'm going to duck for cover now.

True metalheads will also tell you you can’t listen to Darkthrone if you also listen to Deafheaven. Some of the most cloistered, unusual people you’ll meet.
Agree to a point. Though I would argue they are 'tr00 metalheads' as opposed to TRUE metal heads. Whenever I speak to someone that enjoys metal they always end up having a massively diverse range of music that they enjoy.

Avoid Kvlt dickheads and you'll find a very open bunch.

Only just got into The Cure, but this stands up as the obvious nomination for their best LP. Perfectly combines their gothic and post-punk vibes with their more melodic side. Some seriously epic songs sprawled all over. Great lyrics.

I don't think the album is a five for me, and might prefer Pornography persomally (have to revisit both), but Disintegration might be my favourite Cure song.

If anyone was curious to check out the Russian album I had in my list, but can't search it, here you are:

Incredible expertimental rock/noise/folk album. Egor Letov was a genius and well worth reading into.

It's usually people who identify as music fans, rather than being metalheads that'll have the most diverse taste, even if they predominantly listen to metal. You're right though.

Parallax II is also really good. I think prog bands have a tendency to draft into making purely proggy/fusion-based stuff but BTBAM did it pretty tastefully. The Great Misdirect is perfectly heavy. They managed to evolve perfectly.

In listen again the past few weeks I'd just about put Alaska on the 10/10 tier too. Incredible album - foreshadowed Colors, was as dynamic if not moreso.

All good points well made. What a band.

I've also enjoyed everything the individual members have done solo or guested on. Just a group of brilliant musicians

It's probably my least favourite of their albums. I don't know if I listed it earlier, but I'd have Whatever And Ever, Amen as a 5-star album for sure.

The one that sticks out for me;

I love all things Pearl Jam, but No Code as a five star album over Ten, Vs and Vitalogy seems odd.

Probably not 5-star quality, but it's an awesome album. I'd have it up at the Vs, Vitalogy level.

Ten is the obvious nod as PJ's best, but I wouldn't have it as a 5-star album. Too top-heavy IMO. Great LP though.
