Never understood the point of getting your back done where you can't even see it.

Except on girls; tramp stamps provide a valuable identification role.

Because having it on display for you or others isn't the most important thing about them to some people.

That's my whole point.

Having them on your back means you can't see them, only other people can, so it suggests to me that displaying them to other people is the motivation.

And that's why I don't understand the placement in those cases - if they're not for display they're obviously for personal benefit, and if they're only for personal benefit why wouldn't you want them somewhere you (the wearer) can see them.

(I've got one on my shoulder for that reason - it would suck to have to stand in front of a mirror and crane my head back just to see it).

... The location might have significant meaning to them, it might not mean anything, you are reading too much into a very personal choice

Yeah, won't happen as much as people predict imo.

Besides those who get ridiculously embarrassing ones to prove how 'wild and crazy' they are, most people will get used to seeing them as part of their body.

Sure they'll look crap as they age, but so does the rest of your body and you don't see the majority people rushing out to get plastic surgery once they hit a certain age.
