Prediction Fixing our forward line

Good call, I'd like to see Jaksch get a go. Hell let him take the backup ruck duties. There's only a couple of boundary throw ins per game now with the deliberate ruling, and if you timed Kreuzer's breaks well he'd only have to take one or two centre bounces.

Wouldn't mind seeing Rowe play the forward/2nd ruck role instead of Casboult.
Rowe is a nice kick at goal, shown recently against Freo where he slotted one right through the middle.

Given how little Casboult is offering, especially with his morale sapping misses, Rowe surely can't be any worse.

He can be the 'big body' to protect the younger guys, and let Plowman, Marchbank, Macreadie, White & A Silvagni handle defensive duties.
Then with Weitering playing either end as well.

I wonder if in the MC's mind, Jaksch would be competing with SOSOS in that '3rd forward' type role.
I dont think Jaksch can ruck at all.

But they seem hell bent on having a 'big body' like Casboult in the team.

I'd prefer a forward line mix including Jaksch, Rowe (playing second ruck) & SOSOS. Then have Weitering pinch hitting as needed since Bolts wants him to get settled as a defender for now.

All 4 of the above are nice kicks for goal.

if Boulton perseveres with the two ruckman (one playing forward) then Casboult has to go - we can't be so big and immobile up forward.
He therefore has about 6-8 weeks to prove his worth. I then figure one of Jaksch or Jones will play key forward with McKay a smoky depending upon VFL form

I personally would like to see the 2015 draftees on the HF line providing lead up options, Pickett and Wright in the pocket and say to Kreuzr ruck or day and Rowe will help tuck in defense and Jaksch/McKay in the forward line

HF Silvagni Weitering C Curnow
F Wright Jaksch/McKay Pickett

I've given up on Levi - not only has he shown he cant kick a goal from dead in front 20 meters out - he also consistently shows he has a very poor footy brain - nice bloke I'm sure.
Sad. Love the guy, but how long can one persist with someone who doesn't improve in such a key area :(

No goal or field position sense, no ability to lead into space, too slow , contested marking now reduced to bringing the ball down in random fashion too short to be a second ruck restign forward etrc etc...sad.

The only good thing about Cas IMO is his marking ability. I think it is really useful when he can take a big pack mark on the wing and take possession. His goalkicking sucks but his marking is elite.

If he is at high CHF with SOJ, Weiters, Jaksch, and Charlie deeper I think it could be ok.

Trouble is, he is not clunking as many contested marks as he was a couple of years ago & he drops a lot of marks that he should be taking.

If we are going to select him because he takes a couple of contested marks per game, then we are going to be playing with 17 men on the field for the majority of the game.

that field-kick clanger last night was a classic 2 goal turnaround

Out of our young defenders Weitering, Macreadie, Marchbank, Plowman and Glass-McCasker, Weitering will be our best player but IMO Macreadie has the skills to be the best forward out of the group.
serious? tell me more please.........

TBH, while I have been against the idea of playing Weitering up forward, the more I listen to Dunstall explain the more I actually like it. With one caveat though, if Bolton is going to go this way and play him as a CHF/ FF, then he needs to make the move permanent for the whole season. None of this few games up front, few games down back. It has to be an all in decision, stick with it for the whole season IMO.

I've pretty much written off a few so called 'stars' for us - but best to leave my tendencious views aside for a while and hope I'm wrong.....

gunna be an 'interesting' year.

Richo moved to the wing and did really well.

I have been informed that Kerr can take a great mark and is an enormous accurate kick. If he can take the lead up grabs and convert we have a better version of Cas IMO . Both have their critics in terms of defensive running, but one can kick. I would be ok with cas on a wing and Kerr at FF

Kreuzer and Phillips are not forwards by any measure. If we are playing both in the team, either one will be forward about 70% of game time. Can't afford to have both of them in the side. Cas as the second ruck the lesser of two evils at this stage.

Midfield still our biggest impediment to scoring.

Jaksch has kicked goals 7 in the last 2 VFL scratch matches.
196 cm moves fine has some footy nous, can take a good mark and kick a ball well.
So what if he appears lackadaisical and a little nonchalant the guy can kick goals and moves intellegently as a forward. The ruggerd, determined look will come with confidence.
Once we have Murphy, Gibbs, SPS and Pickett, up and running distributing ball to more a Intelligent and talented forwards , Jaksch, LeBois, J. Silvagni Charlie and MacKay we'll begin to win games again.
Simply no evidence.

Build your defence, stack your midfield and the forward line will follow. Look at the Bulldogs last year, the Hawks for the last couple. No real big star forwards. Bulldogs last year had Cordy with Boyd in the ruck. Hawks had Guntson with Roughead spending most time around the ball. It's about wining the ball around the middle and putting into space or to the advantage of teammates inside 50.

One of our biggest issues in kicking a score is our turnovers up the field and poor delivery. It's shocking. We need to get past these players. It's a major issue and has been for years

McKay will be the big target in time. Jaksch looked okay in last few games but I'm not sold. We have genuine small talent with Pickett & LeBois and Wright is very underrated. SOS is a very mobile taller option. Key then is using improved midfiled depth through there. Look at all our mids and most can kick multiple goals. It's where good sides now get their scores. Mobile running players. If used properly Charlie Cripps Murphy Gibbs Kerridge Cuningham Palmer Smedts etc can contribute 6-8 goals a game between them. Key will then be how quickly the others mentioned above can develop into regular contributors. Patience is needed.

One thing I do know is Rowe Casboult White Armfield Thomas Gorringe Lamb aren't the answer
Roughead of Hawks was receiving treatment for skin cancer. You might have meant Roughead of Bulldogs, as you referred to Bulldogs, Boyd and Cordy in your previous sentence.

I am optimistic that we have the right blend of talls, flankers and small crumbing / pressure types:

Talls: Casboult, McKay, resting ruckman, Weitering (but robbing defence), Kerr
Flankers: Silvagni, C Curnow (playing midfield too),
Smalls: Wright, Pickett, resting rover (Murphy, Fisher) and then room for Polson, Le Bois, Lamb and Sumner based on Bullants form,

It's about the delivery from the midfield, and working together to get defenders out of position. I think it will take time to gel, can see us troubling opposition as our forwards click.

My starting 6:

C Curnow L Casboult J Silvagni
J Pickett H McKay M Wright
