Complaining about the fixture after it has come out, is like complaining about the 'weather'. Like Mcrae suggested lets acknowledge its not even, but every club has peaks and troughs for differing reasons. Hopefully as a club we stop looking for excuses and get on with winning games of football.

I was livid about our 5 day breaks on the back of travel early last year, but the reality is what really exposed us was our poor midfield list depth and injuries early in the season.

The fixture is a huge contributor to finals chances. The AFL have tried to fixture Carlton and Essendon to finals in recent seasons. It is meant to give a soft run to sides down the ladder. We always seem to be used as filler for the other clubs to get padded out and miss out on an easy run.

A tough first half of the year can snuff out momentum and hope. When the clubs are so close to each other, small things can make a big difference. There is probably only going to be one horrible side this year and even Richmond still have a decent baseline under their kids. They'll take out napping sides.

Would it be fair to say that the fixture is a huge contributor to pretenders getting into the finals?

Geelong are going to be playing in some tough conditions this Saturday before they face us next week.

I expect Freo to put up a fight.
I don't know whether i want Freo to win, leaving the Cats fired up to "bounce back" against us, or whether its better if they win at home, leaving them complacent.

In an ideal world they'd lose both.
