Monday night game on WA Day.:thumbsdown:

I find it simply amazing that 2 clubs and I will include the Dockers in this continue to show zero respect from where they were born from. The WAFL get one day a year where they get footy to themselves. Just one!!!!
But no the Eagles and Dockers have to take that as well, the AFL would only fixture this upon a request from us or them.

Just one ****in day a year, and yet they can't leave that alone.
Absolute disgrace!!!

That is horseshit GWS

There is no evidence to suggest either side has requested in. In fact, I don't see the benefit for either WA club at all.It is n't as though WC need extra promotion to sell out a game

The AFL like a number of Monday night games live into Melbourne each year.

The WA day holiday occuring in Round 10 gives them that opportunity, with neither participant being unduly disadvataged having the bye the following week.

Balance of probablities suggests it would be AFL driven, not club driven

I think the benefit is we get a week off to recover for our next game. Derbies are usually physically taxing games and both sides often perform poorly the next week.

Well we will find out in the next couple of days, by your reckoning we should see a back page headline from the Eagles telling the AFL that Foundation day is a day for the WAFL and the Eagles request no AFL fixture be played on this day. I am sure that will happen because after all the Eagles are all for WA football...................

Call it horseshit or whatever you want Falcon, but unless I see something like the above then I have no doubt it is Eagles driven and it does not surprise me a bit. Not sure where you get your balance of probabilities from.

So your logic suggests - because WC don't start a war cry defending the WAFL - then they are guilty.

Lets wait and see some actual facts before we cast aspersions at the club we love eh?

If they have requested the fixture, like you I will be bitterly disappointed.

HOwever, given it looks like we have a Monday and Thursday fixture and only one bye - a request for the monday game ensures more 6 day breaks than are necessary. Given we try and avoid those like the plaguye, the balance of probabilities suggests we wouldn't be requesting a 6 day break

Well as it was announced yesterday one would think the Eagles would be on to it pretty quickly wouldn't you? Will wait with baited breath at their response.

From a WC point of view - if the Monday game is followed by a bye - their issue of 6 day breaks is avoided. So why would they bother protesting until the byes are announced. It isn't their position to lobby for the WAFL. The WAFL and AFL clubs are beholden to the WAFC, not to each other.

Simply assuming that because WC aren't riled up by an AFL decsion - that it automatically means that they initiated the decision is ludicrous.

It may well come to pass that the club has requested the fixture. But as yet there is no evidence to suggest they have. We have a derby in Rd 1 - do we assume we requested that as well?

I don't believe that the WAFL has exclusive rights to play on Foundation Day.

The WAFL just has to promote it as they do currently and get as many people to come down to watch one token local game for the season.

Serves them right for not coming to the party regarding reserve teams.

I hope the Eagles/Docker did do it!

The integrity of the WAFL should be preserved in memoriam.

As a third tier competition that gets bypassed by other development funnels.

I sincerely apologise for thinking about the WAFL. What was I thinking?

No - you weren't thinking about the WAFL at all - you were berating the club for showing "zero respect"

I too think it is a piss poor decision to hold a game on the Monday. There is zero appetite from supporters of either club for the game and the WAFL grand final aside, it is the marquee day for our league with both perth and fremantle rivalries displayed.

However - that doesn't mean I start a rant about WC as though they are the guilty party. If it turns out they requested it, I will be equally disappointed.

Looking through what has been released in the fixtures - and I can't work out how our fixture is going to run.

Nothing seems to wor based on what has been released.

The only way I can get our fixture to work with 11 home games is if we go

Rd 11 Away
Rd 12 Bye
Rd 13 Away

We know Rd 1 is away and Rd 10 is at home - so we must have home games in Rds 2,4,6,8,10

We also know we have a home game in Rd 14 and also Rd 16 (Derby) and also round 23. So we must have Home games 14,16,17,19,21,23

That means we don't get a home game from Rd 11-13. And to avoid two away games in a row - we must have the bye in Rd 12. Meaning both the Mon and Thurs game involve 6 day breaks

Anyone else see something awry here?

greatwhiteshark

It has now come out we did request the fixture.

Like you, I think it is piss poor

Like i said mate it is a lack of respect. Anyway it is what it is and there statement was just a bunch of crap as per usual.
I will be at the Perth derby and there will be 4 empty seats at the Eagles that night.

Why wouldn't you walk across and watch both?

That is my plan. I don't get to many WAFL games due to my own footy commitments - I see this as a great opportunity for a double header (unless I go away for the weekend)

Just be my little stance, won't matter to anyone as they still get their money in membership but i will feel better.
Mate angry about this at the moment, may change my mind on the day and go to both but the Eagles are becoming a bit bullyish. No need for it. Not as if they need any extra promotion here or will get a bigger crowd. Nothing to gain for the eagles here except just for the heck of it lets crap on the WAFL some more.

I agree - WC don't get anything out of it - in fact with the scheduling it looks like we are cretaing 6 day breaks for ourselves which is ludicrous

That looks right to me. Round 11 (away) would be a Sunday game (9th June) and Round 13 (also away) would be a Thursday (20/6) or Friday (21/6) night game, though I can't see us playing 2 Thursdays in a row.

Having said that though, I don't know what's been confirmed and what hasn't.

Is the GF definitely on the 28th September? Are there only 3 MBRs like last year? There was talk at one stage that the AFL was considering 6. If the answers are yes and yes, then what you posted is the only thing that fits.

Pfffft really how much $$$ does WCE pump into the WAFL?

A successful eagles = A better WAFL

I do think we need a reserves team though. All AFL clubs should have them...

How good would it be to go to a game 3 hours earlier and watch the up and coming kids on the list playing - I used to love going to games in Melb in the early 90s when U had (for example) Rich v NM reserves before the main game...
