News Fixturing - Why is our game time still TBC?

I’m perplexed by this.
We know we’ve qualified for a home prelim. Great.
We know it’s next Saturday. Great

WE DON’T KNOW WHEN?
Travis Auld, Fixturing Head Honcho of the AFL, claims it’s based on “travel requirements” of our prospective side.

I can’t work out how it matters? We’re playing a Victorian side, both of whom are playing at home. How does it make any difference?

Apparently Auld has alluded to the fact we’re probably playing in the afternoon during an interview with MMM, but nothing is official.

Basically
WHYYYYY ARE WE STILL GUESSING?

Let's just say that if we were the away team the time would already be locked in with no consultation.

It is baffling as they already know both teams are coming from Melb. They have two options, a 2ish afternoon game or a 5ish evening game. I suspect they know that a 2ish game would be safest for getting back to Melbourne easily, but an evening game is better for ratings.

I suspect there is a battle going on with Channel 7. Channel 7 will be doing everything possible to have a night (at least 5.40pm local start) game, ala v Norf in 2015. The VFL will be wanting to ensure that whoever plays will be able to get back to Melbourne that same night. For purely selfish reasons, I hope it it as late as possible (so I can watch lol), but if it suits us playing earlier (slightly more recovery time etc), then so it must be :) We shall await the authorities decision!

The AFL have the right to schedule the Prelims whenever - Channel 7 would prefer night, but get no say.

I don't get the delay either - hoping for a 1:20 game, but as long as its not in the evening that's ok. A 1:20 WST game can roll straight into the news in Victoria, so not a bad result for 7.

Any non-Victorian Prelim (or featuring a non-Vic team) should ALWAYS be in the afternoon - but hey - its the VFL !

ffs AFL I agreed to do a shift until 5pm on the same day because I assumed that it would be a god damn night final. Now I'm going to have to get sick or watch the replay :(

Day game suits us. Less chance of slippery conditions unless it’s raining.

Hopefully it’s sunny and warm.

Time confirmed, as already stated. I think that I read somewhere that the AFL couldn't confirm times because they were negotiating with Virgin to ensure that the Melb side would be able to get a flight back on Saturday night.

I'll be on a plane from Perth to Dubai at that time. I'll contact the airline and see if there's any way of broadcasting it, as most of the Perth based people would be keen.
