last years grand final appearance was unexpected with some quick development of new kids helping

Will they back up in year 2?
you would think they would naturally improve, or suffer 2nd year blues. Anyones guess

Its a bit of elimination

which of the other 17 clubs cant win the flag

to me rule out straight away

Brisbane
Carlton
Collingwood
Essendon
Fremantle
Gold Coast
Melbourne
north melb
richmond
port
stkilda

Someone always makes the jump. St Kilda a sneaky chance of top 4 from those listed.

But its GWS's to lose.

they wont win the flag (stkilda that is)

Just like the Bulldogs wouldn't at the start of the year.

sometimes you put your nuts on the line

if stkilda get kissed on the dick by the umps at record levels then sure they could be the bulldogs

Need 1 more key signing before they reach Bravedogs level. I dont think Jefferey is out of contract until 2019 though. Unlucky

I'd expect us to still be up there in terms of defensive sides. With the emergence of Aliir and Marsh along with Jones cementing his spot, our depth in defense is much better than it was before last season. In recent seasons, if you're in the top 2 for least points conceded it generally gets you into the top 4.

Whether that translates into a flag would depend what support we could find for Buddy up forward and which young players could step into the midfield and become an extra consistent contested ball winner. Heeney is the obvious candidate to be one, we'll likely need a Foote or Hewett to step up and play a significant role in there as well.

This reply was way too measured and sensible. Reported

Gillon McLachlan is a Saints supporter. Need I say more. Bullies had to win last season for McLachlan to look good. GWS or Saints will get huge leg ups in 2017

Would not surprise me

Will take a phenomenal game to beat them in a final. If Mummy is injured and they lose one or two others to injuries we're a chance.
Without Mummy they've won just five lousy games against bottom sides (14-18) in the last three years. The stats say that if Mummy is injured GWS are done. In 2016 Mummy only missed one game. What chance of that happening again ?

Let's not finish top of the ladder again. In the last 100 years we've finished 6 times as minor premiers. Only once did we win a flag from there (1918)
