I wouldn't necessarily say we were limping in finals last year. Asides from Aliir, the grand final side was pretty close to our best available. Some players were carrying injuries but it didn't seem like a problem when we comfortably beat Adelaide and Geelong.

I have been waiting for that luck in the finals series since 2012 regarding injured players, we ALWAYS seem to limp into finals.

Gut two-way running + fiercely contested game = injuries by finals. When we make it easier on ourselves by not turning the ball over once in every five disposals, we might get into the finals in shape to win a premiership.

I reckon Parker was pretty inhibited, and he picked that up after the heat was already out of the geelong game. Rohan was sore as hell with a few pretty solid niggles, Kennedy and Buddy were both carrying things, Mills and Mcviegh probably shouldn't have played. Jack was holding his ribs in the Geelong game. The team we fielded was pretty close to best available, but I reckon a few were sore as hell.

We had our best team available come qf and certainly didnt limp in but we picked up key injuries in every final we played.

To replace Aliir with Mills who had played 1 quarter in 5 weeks is certainly the most stupid decision this club has made since trading the Danihers.

By that stage of the season, every team that makes it as far could expect to be carrying some sore bodies. I think we had enough capable players available to win it but for a variety of reasons on the day we didn't (there's been enough discussion about that already so not delving further into it). Perhaps in hindsight the coaches got the selection wrong bringing back Mills and McVeigh and should've backed our depth players who have proven themselves capable during the year. All we can hope for now is that they learn from it in 2017 should we get another opportunity.

Only 13 and 15. The other two years we had most of our best team available in September and managed to make the grand final. If we get a decent run this year I expect us to be good enough to make it again.

I think we hit the finals in decent/good shape in 16 but got to the Grand Final carrying or missing a few players - we were a bit unlucky I reckon. A fully fit and firing Mills, Parker, Tippett, maybe McVeigh and/or Buddy would have made a huge difference in that GF.

The more I think of it, the more I think that if a few of our midfield rotations weren't under fitness clouds we would have rolled the dice on Reid, his mixture of height and movement would have really stretched the poodles. Anyway..........

Parker was selfish AF to even nominate himself gf day
Didn't even want to get a scan the week leading into the gf because he new it was not right

Selfish is a big call from the comfort of your arm-chair. Parker had a blinder against the Dogs in his last game and still notched up a decent game by anyone else's standard in the GF. I can't think of a player in the 2s who could have stepped into his place and done a better job. Even being on the field means he draws attention away from others. One of the very best players in the AFL, he's not really replaceable. Could argue shit-poor timing to get an injury but kudos for getting himself up to put in the effort.

Fact is the AFL screwed us by putting our 'home' final at ANZ instead of SCG where the Giants would have squirmed under the foreboding battlements of fortress Swans. Had we won that one we'd have had a few more fit and rested players. When we got through with sheer determination they switched to Plan U (umps) to f us over in the granny.

You at the game ?

we can look at Mchack, parker, Mills a few others half fit but once Buddy got hurt and was largely useless it was pushing shit up hill

When a player refuses to have a scan knowing that he isn't 100% is a little selfish imo

yeah shouldnt be up to the player

I was not aware that happened to be honest

Yes running suicides on a basketball court is hard enough let alone doing it on 150 mtr playing surface. Having said that, a game plan that has your whole 22 in the opposition attacking half when they are in posession and then having to sprint back another 100mtrs to even be an attacking option is going to take its toll on the fittest of teams not to mention one who relies on such an inside physical brand of footy. We have the cattle but imo that game plan needs adjustment through ball movement and forward structure. They may only have to be minor tweaks that could be difference between making it to the GF and actually dominating the season and winning it.

I thought Aliir was the big one. Sure there were others but Aliir turned us from a top 4 side into the absolute top side. His injury really hurt us.

Good call. He is that good and of such importance to our chances I am praying he doesn't have second year blues.

Parker could barely run

You know what Punts ? His selfishness may have come back to bite him because imo he now carries a cloud over himself of a player who has gone missing in 2 GF's. He put himself out there and if your out there especially of his own undertaking then your fit. He then has to cop the wrap that comes with it. I like Parker and would not swap him for the world but if this is true he has a fair bit to do in terms of leadership and self sacrifice if he is indeed one day become Swans captain as has been touted. Also if true very unprofessional of the club to allow the decision left to the player and even more amateurish if indeed no scan was undertaken. All seems a bit dare I say it, a bit un swans like.
