depends how quickly it occurred it really is quick scary look at the Cyprus flight 522 in may 2005 (only 9 years ago), that happened slowly and yet despite numerous alarms the pilots only made one call raving on about cooling equipment, no mayday nothing. and despite being told to check the air pressure he didn't. conversation consisted of just 4 sentences.....after that no contact was made.
the plane was in a holding pattern (on auto pilot) near an airport and just continued to circle. when the tower operator couldn't get hold of the pilots alarm bells rang fighters were dispatched and confirmed oxygen masks had dropped and no one was moving.
eventually the plane ran out of fuel and crashed, subsequent investigation suggests even though the pressure loss was slow that only 1 alarm sounded before the pilots were so badly affected by a lack of oxygen they didn't even think clearly enough to put on their masks. the fighter pilots also said it didn't appear that the passenger's had put their masks on either.
lack of oxygen from pressure doesn't cause you to gasp for air, its more you become confused cant think straight you can black out before even noticing somethings wrong.
simplify what you are saying happened.
plane on auto pilot, then everyone blanks out, plane goes along on merry way?
