Flight Plan donations in membership fees

Non issue for me, even though i have previously donated twice i have no issue with another $50. No issue with the way it is done either, letter clearly explains and gives you an option either way.

Can't understand why people are so nasty about it, it's not like they didn't advise you that you can opt out of it. They are doing nothing wrong. Membership fees rise most years, just like cost of living. Nothing wrong with it at all.

I myself have saved enough money to pay the extra $50. I don't mind. In fact, I encourage it. $50 is nothing when you go to the footy from February to September and enjoy your club.

$50? don't you love the club no matter what? Have a glass of concrete and harden up people ...

The club could do everything bad under the sun & I would still support them because I love them no matter what. I would of thought a vast majority of the clubs members were the same.

Obviously not, just all talk ...

Your whole post sounds like you are blinded by love , we all got lead down the garden path this season with reguards on how the investigation was going and in the end we bent over and took it in the ass , how much has the board committed to the flight plan ? It should be an option to donate not something that needs to be cancelled when being a member .

I Love this club and have my whole life , but im slightly disillusioned with decisions the club has made in the past few years and for you to say 50 dollars isnt much well maybe to you it isnt but some people buy memberships just to support the club and dont make it too the games and 50 dollars maybe an extra expense that shouldnt be burdened onto a fan.

Then opt out. Simple.

I will pay the $50, I'm downgrading membership anyway, but after this season where the club has let us down in several ways, it should have been opt in. Its like going on a road trip with mates, where one of 3 scenarios can happen.

1. Everyone agrees to do 10km/h over the speed limit and split the speeding fine if you get one.
2. There is no agreement, so whoever gets the fine has to pay it all unless people volunteer to chip in and pay.
3. Someone speeds, gets a fine and then asks everyone to pay money.

Option 1 or 2 are okay imo, but option 3 leaves a bit of a sour taste in my mouth as this has. I understand we are a strong club and one of the reasons we are is because we have a lot of supporters chipping in, but in recent years I think they have been over the top in their asking for cash, and this tops it off.

But do you have an issue with it?

potayto, potahto. you have the choice ether way.

There is a lot of research that shows that it makes a world of difference.

An 'opt out' method effectively takes advantage of the fact that people generally do not read the fine print or often take in what they read. The club has explained the donation but they have almost certainly done so in the knowledge that most people will not bother to read it. If they had gone with an 'opt in' method then they will make far less money and they know that as well.

The justification for the donation is also terrible. The level of debt the club has taken on is a drop in the ocean. The club will pay that debt off relatively quickly regardless of extra donations by the fans, so why ask for more? Particularly given the season that the clowns at the Essendon football club have put their fans through. If ever there was a club that did not deserve any more money from their club then surely it is this one.

You're a fool. A complete and utter fool.

Then it should rise in line with inflation, should it not?

You make out that $50 is the least people can do as the club give you the privilege of going to the footy. You'll be happy to tell me what the other $700 for membership is for then?

$50? don't you love the club no matter what? Have a glass of concrete and harden up people ...

No matter what? So what, people should donate their money because they love the club and if they don't, they obviously don't love the club?

Oh here we go, so people who are displeased about the club trying to take advantage of gullible people suddenly don't love the club?

Funnily enough, you are one of those gullible people.

For **** sake, people are allowed to criticise the club you know? It doesn't mean they are any less passionate.

Don't you ****ing dare say me or anyone like me doesn't love this club just because they don't go out and chuck an extra $50 on top of my membership for shits and giggles just because the club asked(by ask, I mean tell me and if I don't want to, I have to tell them).

He'll, I for the most part couldn't give a shit about this, but your post is some of the most deluded, self-righteous shit going around.

Alright, time to hand myself in to the mercy of the mods, but a ******** needed to be called a ********.

Agree.

I had no issue with the donation. but, I can understand why some have a problem with it.

Donation didn't really phase me either, got the email so I knew it was coming, albeit thought it would be in the form of a checkbox or an optional donation field, as opposed to a pre ticked option.

As long as you're not sitting there just clicking 'next' aimlessly, it's not as if you weren't going to see the donation option in the forms. I agree that it's a bit underhanded and pretty sneaky, but so be it.

On that note, no need to be attacking anyone, regardless of their opinion about the way they've gone about the $50 donation. We're all Essendon supporters here guys!

I don't really like the "taking advantage" reason that's been mentioned by some here. I don't think they are taking advantage of people not reading fine print. You should always know what your signing up for. The club has made the information available so the onus is back on you to ensure you know what your getting.

Not saying people are wrong for not wanting to donate, but I hardly think this is underhanded or dodgy.

Cmon guys, open your eyes, this is all part of the cult of Hird, asking us to mindlessly give money without our knowledge :-P

And at the end of the day, if the 80% v 20% figures are correct, it's worth 60% of 60,000 at $50 a pop. $1.8m worth.

Decent figures. It really does add up

Assuming we get to 60k, need our members to dig deep in 2014 and show some resolve. I'm worried we gathered a few fair-weather members between round 1-12, I wonder if they will be back in 2014?

OK, they have got me!! My "optional" donation is $75!! They must know I'll pay the bastards! Because it's on advantage it is even easier for me to justify, good work EFC :P

Then explain why the number of people who 'opt out' is dramatically different to those that would 'opt in'? If everyone is perfectly informed and read all the relevant documents then there would be no difference between the two options.

But people will be poorly informed and there will be a lot of people who will make donations when they don't want to or not even realise that they have made a donation even after they have paid. I think knowingly taking advantage of peoples stupidity is a bit underhanded and certainly not desirable.

It's a psychological thing rather than a sneakiness thing.

Agreed, most people will see it and understand what it is but keep it in just because it is an easy way to help out and it can be paid off using the advantage option.
