Autopsy Flogged by way more composed swans, back to the bad old days.

Honestly, there has to be a board challenge at some point if this season again goes badly. Not saying the current board haven't done their best, or that they are to blame. But it's the nature of football and it has been a period of historically bad on field performance. No other Melbourne club would have been this patient. I can't imagine a scenario where there aren't some people who have ties to the club who aren't making phone calls.

The Swans play as a team - they are drilled. i see a lot of comments about Wardlaw, FOS, etc will help us well im telling you all now Daicos, Carey etc would not help this team!!! they are lazy, they run one way, they dont know how to lead, where to run or when to run, where to kick into space, how to break lines, to be front and square, to not all go for a mark etc etc etc
Isn’t that why we pay Clarko a truck load of money?

You really have to question why we keep picking the type of players at the draft or can’t develop players to play in a system?

Are they just too ****ing dumb or has the coach lost the ability to get the message across?

Probably somewhere in between, but the talk of standards all preseason is turning out to be nothing more that a giant pisstake. Half of these guys wouldn’t know what standards where if they were sitting right in front of their faces.

As a supporter you have to ask the question, when or will these guys ever get it?

To think I gave up 10 more cocktails with the girls for that!!

So frustrating. I just cant deal with the number of turnovers anymore. I just can’t.
**** I love Jy, but I also ****ing hate him and his eye bleeding turnovers.

The guy busts his arse but kills this footy side with some of the worst unpressured turnovers you will ever see.

I just don’t get what he is trying to do with half of his kicks, does he think he is Darren Jarman? Jarman wouldn’t have even been stupid enough to try and pull off half of the kicks Jy attempts.

Could be either of these I think or a combination of both? We looked so confused tonight especially in the second half. Just dinked the ball around until we ****ed up somehow, chose the wrong option and turned it over - Sydney goal.

I actually thought Melbourne looked more organised than us - they just also happen to somehow be even worse and weak-willed than us and fully threw in the towel.

I think we saw the worst version of a lot of our players tonight and in some ways that is comforting because I KNOW they can play so much better than that... But come on. It's time to string together a month of solid performances. Show us that, at least.

I mean, you're right but conversely you are wrong - because all of those reasons are exactly the reasons why both Wardlaw and FOS help this team. Neither are lazy, they run both ways, they break the lines and know what to do. We just need more of these guys and less piecemeal solutions so the coaches don't have to cover 10 weak spots at the same time.

Players like Stephens are ones where we say "Not our worst" and it's true, sure, but we have too many of these players. If we had 1-2 of them they'd probably do fine in a solid team. We have too many of them and they just expose each other. That FOS can come in and look great is an indictment. That Sheezel walked in and was our best player in year 1 is actually a disgrace. We keep' getting killed by injuries to players we need in the 1's the most. Goater, Wardlaw (there are others) - we need defensive intensity in the middle and clean disposal of half back. Instead every time we get a player in that can do something decent with the ball we lose one out the other end.
100% - if Stephens was the absolute last player picked, fine, your 22nd player can get away with a game like that.

People pretending he was one of our best tonight though, I mean give me a spell. He's a top 10 draft pick, played in a grand final, and with all our guns not playing well tonight bar Sheezel people are giving him a pass for 1 CP and because he didn't turn the ball over etc.

How about get it 25 times, win some hard football and have a bit of impact? just give us something to think MAYBE you are any good.

We have a lot of talent in the team, but right now, we really need most of them to play well for us to be a chance to win, and unfortunately, we just had a stinker tonight.

It's nowhere near as bad as everyone thinks and I get why everyone's upset, but **** me dead, some perspective..... Port Adelaide lost by like 80 points round 1, Melbourne have lost three games by near 10 goals already and they won 11 games last year. Essendon's had a bad loss, and they won 11/12 games last year. Saints got pumped round 1 and they won 11 games last year.... we won 3 games last year, and our % was the worst in the comp.

It's not going to ****ing change over night you bunch of emotional ****s. I'm emotional as well, but ****ing relax, Clarkson took over a rabble, he got ****ed over by the Hawks / Indeginous bullshit media beat up story and I can tell you, someone who did what he did at Hawthorn knows what he's doing.

He's ultra positive in the media deliberately even though he drives me insane to listen to.

It's going to be up and down this year, you don't go from where we were on the ladder to being good every week, as much as we hope that.

Hawks beat Collingwood and Brisbane in 2023 late in the season, we lost by like 250 points in our last two games of 2024. 2024 Hawks lost first 5 games, and three of them where by around 10 goals.... we don't even have the same platform as them coming into this season, it's still going to take time and the start of season was always going to be when we were the most flaky. Look at last year, we put together a good 9-10 game block, that will happen if we stay healthy just calm the **** down.

And yes I can say this, I still have gone to every game in Melbourne knowing we were going to get done by 100 points.

Enjoy the ride.

The worrying thing about this side is that they have no will to grind the game out.

If the game doesn’t go their way they just pack it in and let the opposition do what they please.

So many soft weak willed players currently at this club.

**** I miss the days when we had a team with half the talent but they gave everything they had and never took a backwards step.

With this current mob, as soon as it looks like a tough night, the white flag gets raised.

Good post and I completely agree.

Huge changes need to be made and fast.

Very difficult to find positives out of that junk. Sheezel probably. But even still, needs to be the one kicking into the f50, not accumulating at half back.

Negatives are a little more free flowing, unfortunately:

  • Hope Caleb is providing benefit Mon-Fri…
  • RHJ
  • Parker had a crack all day, but he’s looked v old all year. Loses his feet and goes to ground too often
  • Disco
  • Logue unfit
  • Tucker
  • Simpkin disposal has gotten worse
  • Team wide disposal going into 50 is HORRIFIC. Need to use Sheezel as much as possible in that role.
  • Feel bad for saying this… but a terrible debut by Whitlock. Not his fault, shouldn’t have been selected. Still think he’ll be a player, but man he was bad tonight.

Losing by over 10 goals to a team that had that many of their best 23 players out is truly embarrassing. Not just any members of their 23 either, most of them are in the top third of their team.

Let’s be real about this season:

  • Dismal pre season which showed ZERO improvement
  • Round 1 against a Footscray team fielding essentially a VFL quality team, beaten and never seriously within touching distance when it counted
  • Round 2 played against a terrible Melbourne team that gave up in the last quarter. They were all just walking while we ran around them. Padded the stats.
  • Round 3, actually had a crack but beaten convincingly by a better team (can cop that)
  • Today, flogged mercilessly against a team missing a stack of exceptionally high quality players. Looked like it was going to be 100 points at one stage.

Next week is going to be another long game. Let’s not kid ourselves, we are so far away. We will be lucky to win 4 games this season unless something really significant changes.

We should probably stop handing out long contracts to these sorts of players then
By jove I think you've cracked it!

I mean you're right, but we were in such a hole we just needed players. FWIW I never saw it with him and I'd prefer they just move on.

Jeez it went up quick in the second half tonight. I'm trying to stay positive for my own sanity, but my word they make it tough these boys.

I prefer they don’t even look at these spuds.

Rawlings loves a good potatoe to waste some cap space and picks on.
