my longest train ride not involving a metro issue was maybe two hours on the Taiwan fast train
I spent two days on a train going from Utah to New York and loved it. Had a few great stop offs, like an evening in Chicago, but mostly it was the people I met along the way. Even had somebody bribe a conductor for me to get a cabin since I hadn't seen a bed in about a week.

A combination of partying and hoboing across America. Slept on quite a few buses, in bus and train stations.

Cash bribe. The conductor was from the Caribbean and wanted to chat cricket with me and an English film producer, who was experienced in bribery and helped me out.

I could imagine it being voted worst in Australia, but I don't think it's anywhere close to being the worst in the world.

Well it was based on passenger feedback.

I'm guessing they're not big on consumer surveys in Ethiopia...

Turned up to jakarta for a wedding on Jetstar...................they lost my bags. what a nightmare.
Hate Jakarta airport, such a crap place. Too many terminals and nothing really there.

Main thing I find with flying is to always book a good seat. If you can't fly business, pay a bit more for the extra legroom seats. Not much more $$ but worth every cent.

flying domestic, Virgin and Qantas are much of a muchness IMO. neither are worth the price premium though.

Unless you need to get somewhere by a specific time.

The airport is crap

but I have loads of friends and family there, which makes the visit awesome. the countryside isn't what it once was but still spectacular and the city has a real funky edge that could revival any great city of the world these days.

I wonder if all the people who advocate taking kids in business class go to expensive restaurants and let their kids run wild.
I know I do, **** all you people with lives and free time, feel my pain!

Also MEB_ this is in your future, guess which one Scotland is :p

You should've clicked January instead of May
I knew to expect a comment like that, but I know it was January, I know, hence my bloody anger, but on another magazine site , online, I read about scammers selling $99 dollar fares that don't exist, its ok to have a bit of fun,
but, it was January, and people need to be aware of the profiteers as well as the scammer/hacker criminals. Online!

Also get the feeling that OP just clicked the wrong month

I have never had any issues with Tiger at all. In fact, the only airline I've ever had any problem with is Qantas, who lost my baggage.
Once again I can't do anything about it, but it was January that was booked, and because the add said that , we jumped in , so now why would any airline be giving real cheap airfares for the holiday period, nah mate , the right buttons were pressed ,we can't even get a refund, and 85 dollars to rebook , plus full fare cost added on that , one way, this is either a scam or its airlines pissing on anyone , because they can. And they do! And baggage lost? Yep I've experienced that. At least you got on an aeroplane!

Flown to /via Singapore many times over the last few years but have avoided Tiger like the plague due to friends' bad experiences

I have only flown Jetstar once, and was delayed by 10 hours - never flown by them again
I also avoid Domestic Tiger (again, due to others' bad experiences)

I almost always fly Qantas (or very occasionally, Virgin) domestically , and have never had a problem

For international flights, I stick to full-fare airlines
The one exception's Scoot (got to love the on-air wifi)
Never had a problem with the above

Potentially unpopular opinion, but have been on a couple of Qantas flights recently where it's been trialled and hated it. Much prefer the isolation in the air and burying myself in a book / magazine / doze off to music. I know the obvious counterpoint is that there's nothing stopping me from not activating it...

Are you posting this from aeroplane wifi ;)

I know what you mean though because I do like reading on planes
But having the luxury of wifi is more of a *whynothaveboth* thing
