Maybe the ACL could start a campaign for Christians to boycott Qantas for their influence over the board of RA and for their hypocrisy.

Margaret Court already tried that (and shes part of the ACL).

Got no traction because it went in one ear and out the other of most Australians.

This one appears to have more traction

Assuming the bible is true, a modern day Jesus would prefer the company of homosexuals and atheists to Folau and his ilk.

"The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners." Mt 11:19

Do I hear an Amen?

Um! Don't think Jesus made any reference to gays. It's Paul who that well informed Biblical scholar Izzy has relied upon to condemn gays to eternal damnation.

Not quite an amen. Quote one verse in isolation and what he said loses all context. Amazing how different the picture is when placed back in context.

Mt11:16 “But to what shall I liken this generation? It is like children sitting in the markets, calling to their friends, 17 saying:
‘We played the flute for you,
and you did not dance;
we sang a dirge to you,
and you did not mourn.’
18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon.’ 19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Here is a gluttonous man, a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ But wisdom is justified by her children.” 20 Then He began to reprimand the cities where most of His mighty works were done, because they did not repent: 21 “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. 22 But I say to you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon on the Day of Judgment than for you. 23 And you, Capernaum, who is exalted toward heaven, will be brought down to Hades. For if the mighty works which have been done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. 24 But I say to you that it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom on the Day of Judgment than for you.”

Well he believed the destruction of Sodom was an actual historical event whilst also referring to marriage as between a man and a woman.

When the ACL get involved, which was probably in the plan imo they could raise $20 million framing it as a crusade in a blink. He only needs around $300k max for a team of the best legal heads Australia has to offer.

No way in Hell it only costs that if it goes through multiple appeals all the way to the High Court.

Easily see it costing $1million.

A QC can cost up to $5k an hour. And they always travel with seniors and juniors.

That said, it doesnt explain the other $2m being asked for.

He's one of those neanderthals who takes the Bible text literally - oh, and selectively. University theological schools don't interpret the Bible that way these days. It's the fundies province.

Might want to consider costs to the opposing side if decision goes the other way; costs generally follow outcome. Costs may also be complicated in instances of refusal to settle if initial settlement offer is more or equivalent to eventual damages awarded; assuming the case is won.

Castle has come out said Folou's sacking had nothing to do with his religious beliefs.

View attachment 699375

It's consistent with her statement.

Rugby Australia chief executive Castle and her Waratahs equivalent Andrew Hore said in a joint statement they intended to terminate Folau's contract "in the absence of compelling mitigating factors".

"Rugby Australia and the New South Wales Rugby Union have made repeated attempts to contact Israel both directly and via his representatives, and at this point he has failed to communicate directly with either organisation," the statement read.

"Whilst Israel is entitled to his religious beliefs, the way in which he has expressed these beliefs is inconsistent with the values of the sport. We want to make it clear that he does not speak for the game with his recent social media posts.

"Israel has failed to understand that the expectation of him as a Rugby Australia and NSW Waratahs employee is that he cannot share material on social media that condemns, vilifies or discriminates against people on the basis of their sexuality.

"Rugby is a sport that continuously works to unite people. We want everyone to feel safe and welcome in our game and no vilification based on race, gender, religion or sexuality is acceptable and no language that isolates, divides or insults people based on any of those factors can be tolerated.

"As a code, we have made it clear to Israel formally and repeatedly that any social media posts or commentary that is in any way disrespectful to people because of their sexuality will result in disciplinary action.

"In the absence of compelling mitigating factors, it is our intention to terminate his contract."

Is Chopper going to be on as well?

Won’t happen, but how good a bit of live tv would that be....some one ambushing Jones to his face about his sexuality, querying the strength of his views on Folau’s tweets given that.

Shitty ambush move on a bloke in the closet, but Jones has made a career out of dirt, so fair play I say.

Perhaps, but I could get into a bible ping-pong battle with you until the end of time about whether Folau is right or wrong.

I'm sure my opinion, as an atheist, carries little to no weight among fundamentalist Christians, but I firmly believe the Jesus of the gospels would have opposed Folau in this instance. Even Brian Houston has spoken against Folau's tactics, and he's probably the most respected spokesperson for born-again Christians in this country.

If he doesnt speak for RA then there is surely no problem with him sharing his personal views !

Far too many Christians spend far too much time with the Old Testament.

Jesus would have despised Hillsong.
