If he doesnt speak for RA then there is surely no problem with him sharing his personal views !

In a fight over his contract, he's clearly in breach and he knew he was. Where it goes from there on Friday in another court may be different matter but then does it become about something else?

BTW what position did you take on the outrage scale over Yassmin Abdel-Magid? :D

Castle has come out said Folou's sacking had nothing to do with his religious beliefs.

Semantics.

If an atheist posted that homosexuals deserve to be tortured because homosexuality is an abomination, would you support him?

Homophobia is disgusting whether it comes from atheists, Christians, or Muslims. IOW Folau was sacked for repeatedly posting a disgusting bigoted belief on social media, regardless of the source of that belief.

The difference is that you see religion as a hall pass for bigoted views and I don't.

As a public figure, Folau is held to a higher standard than the general public. That's nothing new either, and his religion wasn't a factor until he made it so.

His public image can't be separated from his sporting skills; they're a package deal.

He's one of those neanderthals who takes the Bible text literally - oh, and selectively. University theological schools don't interpret the Bible that way these days. It's the fundies province.
Well god probably didn't do it but the 5 cities on the plain were probably near the dead sea and were once 3000+ years ago very fertile (can't explain that) but also on an active fault, and you can guess the rest.

Not sure what your point is, folau didn't advocate violence, and he is very much allowed a private life, but carry on vilifying him.

Brian Mitchell obviously supports Folau's position.:thumbsu:
I think it's more of a " **** you eric you lump of shit " moreso than a " **** yer izzy , stick it up da left " thing personally

It's consistent with her statement.

Rugby Australia chief executive Castle and her Waratahs equivalent Andrew Hore said in a joint statement they intended to terminate Folau's contract "in the absence of compelling mitigating factors".

"Rugby Australia and the New South Wales Rugby Union have made repeated attempts to contact Israel both directly and via his representatives, and at this point he has failed to communicate directly with either organisation," the statement read.

"Whilst Israel is entitled to his religious beliefs, the way in which he has expressed these beliefs is inconsistent with the values of the sport. We want to make it clear that he does not speak for the game with his recent social media posts.

"Israel has failed to understand that the expectation of him as a Rugby Australia and NSW Waratahs employee is that he cannot share material on social media that condemns, vilifies or discriminates against people on the basis of their sexuality.

"Rugby is a sport that continuously works to unite people. We want everyone to feel safe and welcome in our game and no vilification based on race, gender, religion or sexuality is acceptable and no language that isolates, divides or insults people based on any of those factors can be tolerated.

"As a code, we have made it clear to Israel formally and repeatedly that any social media posts or commentary that is in any way disrespectful to people because of their sexuality will result in disciplinary action.

"In the absence of compelling mitigating factors, it is our intention to terminate his contract."

Yes but that looks like an overworked spin output from sweaty betty.

If I don't advocate violence, anything goes?

Let me get some bananas ready to throw at Aboriginal footballers. I'm certain I can find a religious passage that I can use to support my action.

It's a good statement and it's very clear imo Sainteric, I suspect you just don't want it to be?

May I recommend the Dutch Reformed Church for guidance if that's your thing.

I prefer a good theological debate about god (Gary Ablett) and his son.
See, now you are asserting that the dirty little grub is assured of having a son.
Which will, undoubtedly, sue the AFL for some pathetic crap.
Then, society will explode again.

What we need is a player to stand up and speak about the discrimination of heterosexual males by the government and media, by way of domestic violence policy.

Then point to this statement about not discriminating based on sexuality.

Wrong thread, mate.

Izzy called me out on 5 times!!! I'm not offended.
One of those is not like the others.

I personally find marriage between two or more believers in sky pixies disgusting and immoral. Clearly, anyone who believes in sky pixies isn't mentally capable of giving informed consent to important decisions with serious consequences such as marriage.

If the government provides a plebiscite about marriage between theists, I will vote no.

Yes. They are teachers. In a Christian school. Is it not obvious that people charged with such a position be expected to follow the doctrine upon which the institution itself was founded? Meanwhile, Folau’s beliefs have zero impact on his duties as a professional athlete, nor upon the founding principles of the ARU. It’s a poor analogy.

The idea that sinners go to hell isn’t one Folau just came up with. It’s not a belief held only by Christians either. So it really comes down to a question of religious tolerance. Are people allowed to believe in these religious doctrines? And if yes, are they allowed to publicly express their beliefs?

I’d say a “no” to either of these questions is a scary proposition.
The ARU is explicit on its values - inclusivity being one of them, I.e making more people feel comfortable playing the sport.

Surely one of their best paid and most prominent players should be expected to abide by their values? Folau has been quite clear on his values, and they exclude anyone who doesn’t follow his religion, i.e. heathens. Given his prominence the ARU is justified in taking steps to ensure he adheres to their values, and excluding him from their organisation if he doesn’t. Same as exclusion of gay teachers from Christian schools, minus the hypocrisy.

And Make no mistake it’s blatant hypocrisy to support the right of private schools to exclude people on grounds of values while demanding that individuals who follow Christianity be exempt from complying with the values of secular organisations. It makes a mockery of the argument that this is a free speech case, at the end of the day it’s an attempt to ensure special treatment for Christians at the expense of the irreligious.

As to your asinine comment no one has denied Folau either the right to hold or express his beliefs, he simply doesn’t have the right to demand continued (lucrative) employment from an organisation whose values he refuses to uphold.

But, but...freedumb.

I'm rounding up some slaves as part of the benefits of my bible-based religious freedom right now. I'll sue you if you speak against my religious right to own slaves!

Hell, I'll sue my slaves if they keep running away from my freedom!

The good Christian folk who have rallied around Folau, I'm sure they mean well and really do believe in this Freedom-of-Speech thing and although they may not agree with him, they will fight for his right to say it.

Well that being the case, I reckon that all Priests/Pastors/Vicars etc, regardless of denomination, they are all screaming homosexuals and pedophiles. I reckon that all German people and those of German heritage, they are all Nazi's and when night falls, they go out and kill Jewish babies and eat them. I reckon that Jews are descended from the Devil and should be eradicated. All Greek men are homosexuals and if they have a wife, it's just a front for their sordid homsexual activities. All Aboriginal men are drunks, all Aboriginal women are whores and all Aboriginal men are pedophiles. All women who dress like call girls deserve to be r*ped, Muslim women who wear Hijabs are really Muslim men hiding from the authorities because they are planning mass suicide bombings of kindergartens.

Please good Christian folk, please fight for me to say these things and even though Israel Folau and others of the Pentecostal "faith", people like our esteemed Prime Minister, even though they reckon that your late father and late mother who were wonderfull and honourable Christians and your siblings and loved ones that have passed on, even if they too were the epitome of kindness and gave freely to help those that were in need and lived decent and righteous Christian lives, even though Messrs Folau, Morrison et al. believe with all their heart that all your loved ones that have passed away are now spending eternity in hell and that you too, will join them to burn in hell forevermore because you and they weren't "saved" whilst on earth, that's OK; they mean well. So onward Christian Soldiers and remember, next time we go to war to fight against, say, another Hitler or another ISIS, please think twice before you commit yourselves to war because after all, Hitler and Bin Laden, they too are entitled to Freedom-of-Speech: aren't they?

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to set up a GoFundMe page so all of you wonderful upholders of Freedom of Speech and Christianity can send me your donations so I can buy an aircraft to fly all over Australia and set up my soap box in the main shopping areas and pronounce to all and sundry that having sexual relation with minors is OK because there is nothing in the Bible that says it isn't OK and in my Christian faith, we have the "Sex-with-children Gospel". Just like the Pentecostals have the "Prosperity Gospels" to bring them closer to God, our "Sex-with-Children Gospels" also brings one closer to God. I am a Christian.

Thank you for your time, God bless you all, I'm a Christian.

How christo fascists expect the commonwealth to protect their religious freedoms and not that of other religions (sharia anyone) through legislation beats me.

Every single christian sect would have to be cited by name and membership therein would need to be codified

I think she should open her mouth more often. Removes all doubt about how ignorant she is.

And for someone so well travelled.

As for the contract, we dont know if he was in breach. And Im not sure whether that will ever be answered because Im not sure if that is what will be contested.

Im probably naive, but if folau saw his way to abandon the case, and instead donate the money to victims of religion, itd be awesome
Pfft.

Folau is being victimised because he can't attack homosexuals without consequence!

Who are we to stand in the way of the almighty sky pixie and his 'thing' for watching homosexuals and high school evolution/biology classes?

The almighty sky pixie is a lot like George Pell, no?
