Don’t we believe in giving people a second chance? He’s made a horrible error of judgement (or a whole set of them around one issue) at another organisation

If he can support success at our club and if he aligns to the values of the club I don’t mind.

I think people can be too high and mighty about these issues.
Im fine with second chances. But second chances should be for people who acknowledge their actions in the first place. Counts Jimmy out at this stage.

Just give Spangher the graphic design position that is available. Make Webb the manager of Barkers cafe. Or vice versa. One decent Assistant is not enough., need another big fish.
Webb designer?

Brendon Lade comes in with over 10 years of experience. Should keep the masses happy.

Hird never truly took responsibility for his actions at Essendon - to this day lays all of the blame on Stephen Dank and the Weapon despite the evidence of him telling them to push the envelope. Still claims innocence of himself and the players despite officially being found guilty of doping by WADA. Wouldn't go near him.

Wasn't Adam Kingsley at the average Saints for yonks then moved to Richmond during the beginning of their peak? He's now got a senior gig at GWS.

Maybe Lade is wanting to get experience at a stronger club like Kingsley.

Exciting times.

The pitch folks if Hird ever stepped into the club, let alone the cafe

He shouldn't be allowed near the club, in any capacity

Apologies. I deleted my original post when I saw that it has all been discussed already.

But to add to the discussion, the author genuinely believes (with evidence) that Hird was made the scapegoat and induced to plead to much more that he was actually responsible for. Think of Hird what you will, but he was certainly given a worse wrap than he deserved while others more deeply involved walked scott free.

Great read on this and many other issues. If you didn't already think the AFL was crooked, this book will leave you in no doubt.

People? Yes. Hird? No.

I am sure he will still cop it and get ridiculed. I reckon Granty should put the assistant coach job up here to the so called experts than can do better LOL.

Warner says a similar thing played out a few years earlier when the late Dean Bailey was forced to take most of the rap for Melbourne's tanking (which the AFL could never allow themselves to admit publicly because of the serious downstream implications regarding gambling, sponsorships, etc - it's always about protecting revenue). He was told he could take a lengthy suspension if he admitted to certain misbehaviours ... or else he would be permanently banned from any involvement in the game. He chose the former even though he had contested the AFL's version of events.

Let's see if the AFL uses the same playbook with the Hawthorn saga.

Has there been any suggestion that James Hird might be joining the club?
Not outside this board as far as I'm aware. And even then only one or two have canvassed it. I think it's just the usual hypotheticals.

Interesting topic though, as there are many shades of opinion on Hird who will always be a divisive figure IMO.

I’d have no problem with him joining in the unlikely event it ever happened. No way he’d be silly enough to repeat his mistakes and he wouldn’t have the power and autonomy anyway as far as I can tell.

What does he bring to an assistant coaching role though? His senior experience was 9 years ago, game has evolved markedly since then, and he was only a part-time assistant at GWS this year.

Haven’t given that part any thought. It was just an initial view on the principal of him getting another opportunity.

Wasn’t Webb the main stoppage guy for Lyon at Fremantle? He’s clearly no fool, maybe he was just taking on too much this season and can now become a little more specialised with Lade leading the midfield group?

I’d assume there’s a forward coach to be announced and then move Spangher to a development role.

Will Rohan Smith still be there?

Yeah I listened to the podcast with interest. Find a fall guy and hang him out to dry to save the competition. They'll do the same with Fagan , it's the individual not to get system that's at fault. Just like 'gamble responsibly ' - the systems fine you're the stuff up.

Lade close to a senior position I reckon.

Yep. We will be interrupting this sporting event to advertise odds and discuss our tips of the week at every possible interval. The game itself will be encapsulated by hoardings with rolling betting sponsorship being waved in your face…funded by your lost dollars. But yeah, bet responsibly, we really give a s**t.

Two WOOF posters have the same info, posted in their coaching thread.

Bubba to stay on one more year but in a different role (development) - we are still hunting more senior experienced coaches.
That’s good news, I think Smith is much better in a development role. Still need to fill Sphangers forward line role desperately
