Football Park - Discussion

I always figured AAMI would still be a pre-season option in Adelaide while the SANFL still use it for some games.
I don't think the SANFL will touch it for games. Pre-season AFL, yes, but only until they're ready to sell off land and deconstruct the stadium.

Man, changing from a good 2.5 - 3 hour return trip to AAMI to a 20 minute return trip to AO makes me realise how little I missed AAMI stadium. Worst place to get out of as well and a pretty lousy stadium overall. Can't say I miss it at all.

Either you live in the hills and only went to Friday night games at AAMI Stadium, while there were road works.
Or you're talking shit.

I think it's the latter.

AAMI stadium is starting to remind me of the old Waverley VFL park. while it was open, people did nothing but piss and moan about how crap it was, but now its beenshutdown and in its stages of being demolished, the venue is now being spoken of how people miss it!

I have a theory AAMI stadium is the reason the Crows have lost so many players over the years. Just a depressing shit hole that was bad enough to go to as a spectator once every couple of weeks, let alone to work every day.
The stadium is a hole, the training facility is quite the opposite

AAMI Park has been shut down?
Didn't it only open 4 years ago and has 4 tenants? (Storm, Rebels, City, Victory)

Oh, I moved in the process. I should probably add that that was definitely a huge factor. From where I previously lived though, it'd be about an hour twenty to get in and out of AO compared to West Lakes. The traffic factor doesn't change though, and the stadium itself was a degenerate shithole, I have no idea why anyone would veto moving to AO.

Blow it up for all I care.

Golden Grove to West Lakes on gameday was anywhere from 50mins to 90mins depending on traffic flow and road works. South Road redevelopment turned it into a nightmare trip. So he's not talking shit at all.

I just don't understand the AFL's logic in scheduling a game there. The last three pre-season Showdowns at Football Park attracted crowds of 18,202 in 2011, 12,532 in 2012, and 8,966 in 2013. A similar crowd of 8,765 turned up to the pre-season Showdown at Richmond Oval last year. They've never been big crowd pullers, both sets of fans are pretty apathetic to them. And yet that 8,000 at Richmond Oval had a great atmosphere to it and an enjoyable day out, the same sized crowd at Football Park and you can almost hear echoes because it's such a black hole of nothingness.

More to the point, they can't even use the excuse of the ground being unavailable. Richmond Oval doesn't host a grade cricket team like Glenelg Oval or Woodville Oval. There is no reason to not play the pre-season Showdown at a decent inner-city suburban ground when the same number of people are likely to turn up anyway. It's just a baffling decision.

Not sure what way you used to get to Footy Park but my dad lives at Golden Grove and he used to get there in half an hour or 40 minutes on a slow night. Why anyone would park in Max Basheer Reserve was beyond me. I used to park about a KM away and walk.

The AFL has all 18 teams playing in their home states for the last round and Fox Footy requested that there be AFL Standard media facilities and Football Park is the only ground in the state with these facilities available in March 2015.

Used to go straight down Grand Junction Rd and then loop around. One of my mates I went with had family friends who live in West Lakes so we would park in their driveway and walk 1km or so to get there. Never used to be a major problem until the redevelopment started at the intersection and it was 25k/ph for ages.

It was good enough for AFL standards this year.

The Parade to AAMI Stadium was 35 minutes for me. so for it to be an extra 2 hours to get to AAMI than the city?

I stand by talking shit.

Can people imagine what football in our state would've been like if we never moved to Football Park.
SANFL weak.
Port Adelaide and Norwood jump to AFL in the 80s.
They eventually have a down oeriod and go broke in the 90s with no one to bail them out.
The AFL realise they need to merge a few clubs to build the fan base up.
We get a North Adelaide (north of the Torrens) and South Adelaide (south of the Torrens) [Nothing to do with the Roosters or Panthers] These 2 teams still exist today while Port and Norwood go back to the SANFL.

Written like a true Crows supporter :p

The last round of games played are at AFL standard venues. The game at Richmond was played in the first round of games, when they were also playing at Bendigo etc. Crows and Port both played at Etihad in the last "round".
So if the SA clubs want to play in SA in the last round of NAB Challenge, the AFL standard ground available is AAMI.

if that down period ever happened the AFL would've done what it does it all its best clubs - support them, let them tank, watch them come out of it in a few years. :p if Port and Norwood joined there would've never ever been any discussion of mergers or moving or Adelaide Power or two SA franchises.. we would've been a proud footy state that organically evolved and never looked back and we wouldn't have any franchise mentality poisoning us.

I live in Gulfview Heights which joins onto Golden Grove. The wife used to be a Crows member and we would go along salisbury highway, left onto commercial road Pt Adelaide then up past the old Pt Adelaide primary schhol and into the training ovals for carparking in under 20 mins.

Getting to the city with 50k+ is a nightmare. Great stadium, love it but it's now added an extra two hours to the day.
I've tried bus and train. It's shit.

Some win, some loose. That's life.
Was so worth it when we beat the Crows in round 19.
