Without knowing how it would work State of Origin is a fantastic concept that would be a benchmark of achievement for players and the games would be awesome.
Would be fascinating to see a modern day Queensland state team competing in an Aussie rules State of Origin competition. Some legendary players like Dunstall and Voss got the opportunity to play for the Maroons last time they competed in a match in the early 90s and it would be pretty cool to see the Ashcroft boys follow in their father's footsteps by playing for Queensland just like Marcus did 30ish years ago. I'd guess our 2026 QLD state team would look something like this and I definitely think we would be competitive against the likes of NSW and SA with a team like this:

Hypothetical 2026 Queensland State Team
B: B.Uwland (GC), H.Andrews (Bri), J.Payne (Bri)
HB: K.Coleman (Bri), A.Aliir (PA), D.Zorko (Bri)
C: J.Fletcher (Bri), B.Keays (Ade), J.Bowes (Gee)
HF: J.Rogers (GC), E.Hipwood (Bri), S.Marshall (Bri)
F: L.Lombard (GC), J.Walter (GC), C.Cameron (Bri)
Fol: M.Chol (Haw), W.Ashcroft (Bri), L.Ashcroft (Bri)
Int: B.Scott (NM), E.Read (GC), W.Graham (GC), Z.Uwland (GC), D.Annable (Bri)
Coach: M.Voss (Car)

SoO in the bye week before the finals, picked from all teams but enlisting replacement players for anyone playing in the finals the following week. Everyone gets honours, TV gets a game, the clubs don't really care because they're done for the year.

US Pro bowl.
I got about half way through the thought of "before finals" and then realised how similar it was, so nicked the "everyone gets honours" part of it too.

We have a great product, is anyone really screaming out for more exhibition games?

The nrl has a much more inferior product and needs SOO as their marquee event…bigger than their granny.

I mean the NRL commissioner is doing hostage style videos to Donald trump. Amateur hour stuff.

It won't be SOO though it will be Victoria v All Stars just another concept game for the AFL.
That match played in February 2020 to raise funds for the bushfires in NSW was my debut as a play by play commentator on the Tribe app. I remember thinking in the 3rd quarter that the All Stars were on the verge of breaking the Vics.

But in the last quarter Victoria ran all over the top of them; they just had so much more to play for, representing their state as opposed to simply "the rest".

I just think we'd see the same again if we went with an All Stars or Allies concept. I must admit I'm not sold conceptually about an indigenous team (as a society it seems like we've been trying to move away from segregation by race for at least the last 70 years), as exciting as it was to watch, but that would be a vastly superior alternative I reckon.

I did make an edit to my post not long after posting
A link to that game you attended

Don’t need SOO or all star games.

Not sure if I agree that SOO is bigger than the NRL GF or an international against the Kiwis or English.
I can only go off my experience when I'm staying in North Queensland and the SOO is far bigger than the NRL GF. In fact as far as I can tell it generates more interest than any other sporting event in that part of the world.

What the situation is across NSW I don't really know but it seems to take over press coverage to AFL GF levels when I've been there . Particularly for the first game or if there has to be a decider.

Putting aside what the administration wants or what certain fans want I don't think there'd be a player who wouldn't want to be part of a best vs the best game and get to play with players they admire.

Even though the game over the weekend was only an exhibition game you could see the excitement in the indigenous players particularly in the huddles at breaks. They were right into it.

Player movement allows players to join the best teams and play best v best in the finals series (not specifically the gf 😁)

You can never get the game format right to get a proper SOO concept in AFL.
It would take too many games to find the best 2 states that year to play a one-off game decider.
Most likely Victoria win each year.
The AFL know this so come up with other concepts that won't upset the clubs too much.
International rules just so players can say they represented Australia in their chosen sport.
Then the contentious AA team named each year so that can go on a players resume plus they get an extra $30k.

Why not the previous year's AA team v The Others mid-year bye time. Just a concept but at least it would only be 1 game.
Players would have to forgo their bye though.
If players want something (apparently, they do want SOO), then they will have to give up something if it is that important.
Be it Vic v Others or some other concept.
That would get the competition back to a one bye week.
Most people believe they pick to many midfielders in varying positions in that AA team just so they make the team.

Would i pay to go to that game, no.
But i would not go to a Victoria v The Others either.
Maybe i would watch on TV but only to see how Lions players went and got through unscathed.

The AFL like to be in the media each week of the year and this coming up is just another example

Nice to see a rumour I completely made up in [checks notes] 1999 finally coming to fruition. Sorta. Maybe.
That only leads me to ask what else you've been making up all this time...
