Works for me.,huge economic consequences to getting relegated, TV exposure etc so there would be epic battles to avoid relegation or get promoted.Much better idea than splitting teams into "conferences".
You know what… I think I like it.
The bottom 8 teams would be rebuilding.
Of course. There’d need to be safeguards to ensure that the first division teams don’t pillage the second division teams of talent.
Free agent compensation would need to be strengthened and first division teams that get free agents from second division teams would have to sacrifice draft points.
Perhaps also, second division teams could have an automatic right to extend first contracts by three years, to stop the so called go home factor.
But of course, the AFL will never act to even the competition if means depriving the wealthy clubs of power and success. It’s all about eyeballs and money.
I don't for 1 second think the AFL would go down this type of big change.
I am just against any more teams coming into the AFL that either won't work or take 15-20 years to become relevant.
I know this applied to Lions, Suns, Crows, Power, Eagles & Dockers but that expansion was to make it a true national competition.
Below the number of wins from 13th-18th position for the four years after Covid.
And yes, some big clubs involved and that is a problem for the AFL.
However, this is the very reason these are big AFL clubs, because they get looked after.
Just look at the Blues and their prime-time games as an example.
It may look like these teams win enough games, but they often play each other twice and that accounts for wins they would not get in a fair draw.
