Love that the majority of players overseas on fancy holidays and Big O is playing grade cricket.

He is as fast at cricket as in AFL.
Love the Big O.
A bargain in the draft and a good AFL ruck.

If you asked me which type of bowler an AFL ruck would be, spin would not feature in my first three guesses

Funnily enough though, if you asked me what kind of bowler Oscar would be....

Another silly idea from the AFL is the new system for the McClelland Trophy.
I can only assume they are trying to bring a bit more spotlight on the AFLW game after the mens season is over.

Under this system it is possible you can win the mens and another team the womans grand finals and both teams could get nothing for their achievement in regard to the McClelland.

Surely it would be justified to give each GF winner the $500k ($250k each to players and Club) instead of this contrived points system.
Boring i know but fair to all.
Under the points system the AFLW get double the points for wins as they only play 10 games.

Let's say North win the AFLW grand final, the North ladies get no extra money for their achievement.
Same could apply to Crows, Bombers, Suns & Cats.

This change is intended to reward teams in the H & A season games only.
However, our game has always been about winning the GF not if you finished 2nd, 3rd or lower.

If the AFL want to reward the leader after the H& A season do it by giving the leaders the $500k.
Don't have a contrived system that the leaders at the end of H & A still can miss out.

Section 5 I can understand the angst, but that is the nature of the award, isn't it?
I had to look back to 1970 when the three VFL Premiers were Carlton (Seniors), Melbourne (Reserves) and Richmond (Under 19s) - yet Collingwood won the McClelland Trophy.
You can win premierships (or minor premierships), and still miss out on this award.
Perhaps the modern weightings could alter?

Premiers already receive prize money. McClelland Trophy had been all about overall club strength since cocky was an egg.

The McClelland was awarded to the AFL premiers for the previous 32 years.

This year they decided to change it to both the AFL & AFLW.
AFLW has only been around a short period of time.
Why not include the VFL again.
They can't because it is another contrived competition of 21 teams 9 being non-AFL teams.

The AFL have enough funds to award it to the leaders at the end of the H & A season for AFL, AFLW and VFL if they want.

They would only have to come up with another $500k to include the VFL if they desired to do so.
It would be fair to all involved and give a bit of a boost to the VFL if they decide to include that competition.

I don't mind the change to reward the actual ladder leader at the end of the H & A season.
Just keep it simple and actually reward the team that tops the ladder with a trophy and a cash bonus.

McClelland Trophy

1951–1990: Three-grade format (Seniors carries higher value, Reserves & U19)

1991–2022: AFL minor premiers

2023 - AFL & AFLW (carries higher value, 4 premiership points x 2) H & A Games only

The Trophy was first awarded in 1951 when it was awarded to Essendon, and the last season it was awarded to the club with the highest aggregate points across the three grades of competition was 1990 when it was awarded to Melbourne (McClelland's original club).

The first season that the Trophy was awarded to the AFL minor premiers was 1991 when it was awarded to the West Coast Eagles, while the last season it was awarded to the AFL minor premiers was 2022 when it was awarded to Geelong.

The award has been relatively low-key, with no prize money until 2023, although in recent seasons there had been a private presentation to clubs released in video format on websites.

I imagine when/if this comes in, the coaches will still argue they are disadvantaged when injury occurs.

We had one player out of the game the opposition had a full bench of 4 for rotations.
We win that game if we had a sub rule.

Having said that i would prefer no sub or vest type bench player.

Yep, and in a few years we will simply rinse and repeat with a 6th player being named as a sub, before a couple of years after that they just become another normal interchange player.

I reckon they should just go straight to 6 on the bench: one for each line as a guide.

Just went on to vote and looks like Brisbane have been eliminated... went from 27 to eliminated in one post on page 25, not sure how that works.
