I'm a big fan of the AFLW last disposal rule. Removes so much ambiguity and a heap of stoppages.
Me 2 as long as they keep it in AFLW and dont try to bring it into the AFL.

At best they could change a few of the rules back to where they were. (ie. Piss off: Deliberate Out Of Bounds, Push In The Back, Stand Rule, 50 metre penalty to 25metres)

Or at worst they could just leave the game alone for a minimum of 5 years so we can all better understand the arse rule changes they have already made to our game.

Disagree
Last disposal is way better than interrupting deliberate out of bounds. Why should the ladies have a sensible rule.

No bounce should have been introduced 10 years ago. Al least when the umpires requested it around 6 years ago.
No bounce would take zero % for players to get used to.

Push in the back should stay just stop the interpretation of when it's paid.
Dropping push in the back will put players safety at risk big time.

You say you want to leave the rules alone for 5 years yet want to "Piss off" 4 of them.

You mis-enterpret almost everything I said in the post. Thats Ok. Appreciate your post & opinion.

I've been hot desking for a few years now. Checked out my super balance a few weeks ago and I must say retirement looks as a very attractive proposition within 5 years when I turn 60
I heartily recommend retirement if you can afford it, BOM.
My (possibly useless) advice is…
Don’t retire from work
Retire to something that you love.

It is a very misleading catchphrase to the rule in AFLW & SNAFL
Better to call it last disposal out of bounds
I don't think it is an obvious in for next year even though i think it should be considered.

First thing is it only applies between the 2 fifty-meter arcs
Second it only applies to a kick and a handball accidental or not.
Thirdly if the ball is touched by any player irrespective of which team it is, a throw in as usual.
If not touched a free is awarded to the opposite team that kicked or handballed the ball out of bounds.

EDIT: Below from the AFLW site

Last disposal between the arcs

If the ball goes out of bounds between the forward and defensive 50m arcs as a result of a kick or handball, the opposing team will receive a free kick where the ball crossed the line. If it is not clear who touched the ball last, it is thrown in. This rule was introduced to reduce congestion and secondary stoppages.
So does this mean, if you tap the ball over the line deliberately when you’re between the arcs, it’s a throw in?

I think any umpire be it AFL or AFLW would consider that deliberate as you have stated it was deliberate.

The deliberate out of bounds would stay as players know you have to attempt to keep the ball in play.
This applies around the goals and inside the arcs also

Fumbling/tackling/contesting the ball around the boundary line will still happen. A throw in if the ball goes out.
You would be surprised the lack of frees paid in this area as players are a little more cautious to keep the ball in play.

The last disposal out of bounds makes it fairly simple for the umpire to award a free kick or turnover if you prefer that term.

The rule as it is at present
It is part (b) when the umpire has to make a decision on "intent".
Introducing Last Disposal takes that decision out of their hands when between the arcs

Annoys me that we won’t get the video like the Pies did when they won 2023 with the coaches box commentary and overlays, etc due to Longmire taking it out of the venue with him.

I like the side this year.
AFL 22Under22 2025 Team
FB Max Michalanney Mac Andrew Darcy Wilmot
HB Jaspa Fletcher Josh Weddle Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera (VC)
C Harry Sheezel Harley Reid Finn Callaghan
HF Josh Rachele Logan Morris Jason Horne-Francis
FF Murphy Reid Aaron Cadman Nate Caddy
Foll Sam Darcy Will AshcroftNick Daicos (C)

5/22 (22%) Lions seems like an equitable and suitable proportion 😎👌
So how can we fill the remaining 17 spots with Lions next year...

All 5 of our players will still be eligible next season, I'm expecting Daniel Annabel, Sam Marshall and Ty Gallop to be in the side in 2026.

If fully fit this season Kai Lohmann would have been in it as well IMO, not eligible next season.

I reckon Will would be in the running for Captain of the side next year

Not while Harris is playing
The under 22 rep side thing. Not the main team. Daicos and NWM are captains this year. So its usually the older more experienced guys who get it. Will and Sheezel would likely be in the running if they make it next year

Too stocky- more likely Amon Buchanan, though Close did wear that number. From an article on the lions website from 2012:

#33
268 - Darryl White (Bears/Lions)
213 - Alan Gale (Fitzroy)
133 - Brett Stephens (Fitzroy)
91 - Claude Curtin (Fitzroy)
83 - Neville Taylor (Fitzroy)
48 - Rhan Hooper (Lions)
31 - Michael Nettlefold (Fitzroy)
26 - Rowan Warfe (Fitzroy)
18 - Colin McRae (Fitzroy)
18 - Amon Buchanan (Lions)

Hammelman finished with 93 goals for the year in the QAFL. Massive.
Im still in agreement he could have had a decent shot at AFL level. Just needed him to want a go and the right club at the right time. Talent was there
