Can someone tell me why hands in the back in a marking contest was banned? It is something that has never made sense to me... sure if someone is on the lead you shouldn't have hands in the back, but when a wrestle is on why is it a bad thing? In fact, wouldn't it result in more contested marks if it was allowed?

It was to stop defenders just pushing forwards out of the contest.

Not a great start to the day, just went up to the chooks and one of them had died overnight, I must be getting soft, got a tad emotional at the thought of having to tell my darling 6 year old granddaughter that Rosie has gone to the big chook pen in the sky.
Aww, poor Rosie:(

..you tell your granddaughter that SOME on here have a heart and are sorry to hear the sad news.

Not like SOME cold hearted people who shall remain nameless.;)

(p.s I have a phobia about chooks/birds by the way. Not bad for a country girl eh?:$....but nevertheless, if it's a loved pet that makes it sad)

When i was 6 my Mum and Dad bought me a watch for Christmas it was a very expensive watch and i was very excited.
Litterally just after i opened all of my presents on Cristmas morning including the watch, Mum asked me to go down and feed the chooks. When i was in the pen feeding them one of the chooks saw the new shiny watch and decided it looked lovely, pecked at it and broke the glass. I got one of the biggest beltings i had ever received and hence, Chicken is now one of my favourite foods.

That sounds like something my grandmother would've done......wasn't your fault the stupid chook broke your watch.

...when I was about 4-5 and staying at my nana and pop's, they had their chook pen up against a side fence.....anyway, there was a smallish hole in the back of the corrugated iron shed. Nana made me go with her to get the eggs, toughen me up you see......as I was nervously standing there with all these goddam feathered monsters around pecking at me, I happened to look at the hole and spotted a snake slithering past between the shed and fence..

Nana didn't believe me and sent me inside, thinking I was being a scaredy cat again.......surprise, surprise, there was a big commotion in the chook shed a bit later on, and guess what, there was a snake in there and nan had to kill it as pop wasn't home..

She was a good nan, but they were tough back in those days..

I'm saying conspiracy. Rosie lives.

Check the dental records.

Rosie lives, my granddaughter informed me it was Strawberry that passed away, I'm a silly sausage, she took it OK it was the 9 year old grandson that was more upset.

Mark Robinson has written a piece on the rags to riches story of Sam Powell-Pepper (Port Adelaide)

What a truly sad but inspiring story..

What he went through and how he has come through it.

Much love and congratulations to him and good luck for his future.

It's only banned in the imagination of umpires.

Worse than that, it was un-banned to do exactly what Dom PC and the rest of the world wants, and that is to allow more contact (which was always legal anyway) in marking contests. You, know, revert to the rule book.
Sadly, like 99% of rejigged interpretations, they only remain in the umpires' minds as long as they are reminded of the "new" workings at their early season briefings, typically about 2-3 rounds.
Speaking of which, not only have some dumped the "deliberate" or more correctly 'insufficient intent to keep in' rule, but they aren't even paying the actual deliberate out of bounds.
I give umpires :thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown:

G'day people, just dropping through. As a Geelong supporter I love shoving it up Hawthorn at every turn. Scrolling down the list of team forums Hawthorn's threepeat jumps out in bold and clobbers ny eyes every bloody time. Brisbane have an AFL-era threepeat to their name as well. Why isn't that in bold too?

C'mon, you can't leave the Hawks with the only bolded eye-attractant can you?

We as a club are understated and classy. No need for the vulgarity of bold.

Ha, fair enough! Never thought of it as a sign of insecurity, that bolded and vulgar proclamation...
They are just front-running bullies with no real character, who wouldnt of won anything if not for the compromising pictures of the umpiring community with that flock of goats. Male and female goats. If you know what I mean.

Was reading about the Bulldogs agreement around selling games to Ballarat and dropping out of FNQ. Whilst they are playing one game in Ballarat next week, from 2018-21 they are playing two games a year at the venue with their preference being one game against a SA club and the second against a non-Victorian side.

I seriously hope the Lions have demanded that it not be drawn into playing in Ballarat.

They'll probably end up counting it as one of our Melbourne games

Do shuttle buses no longer run from Roma Street and the Gabba on game days? There was nothing happening at the usual stop yesterday. I haven't tried to get a shuttle for a year or so. I wasn't the only Lions fan that went there looking for a bus.
