For those that don't want to open an account at The Age
below the important bit about the Lions from the article
......
The Brisbane Lions, who have recovered strongly from a fiscally fraught position and made a profit to $3 million this year, are expected to receive about the same as they did in 2021.

Best AFL game of 2021 vote on AFL site
Lions nominated for 3 of 13 games
Two games lost by 1 point being Cats round 2 and then the Dogs final. The 1 point win over the Pies in round 3.
At present the Lions v Dogs final leading with 32% closely followed by Demons v Cats round 23 clash with 29%
Next best 9% so a 2 horse race at present

Reckon the poll should include our game vs WCE in round 23 as well! Chasing that percentage was one of the most exciting/stressful regular season games I can remember
That game was very exciting for us Lions fans. The win gave us that double chance and theoretically making it harder for the Dogs
However i imagine that game v Eagles sits well outside being rated in the best 13 games of the season for most AFL fans

I reckon this poll was collated by someone who simply went and got a list of the closest games of the season. You can have games decided by 6 goals that are absolute classics. The 2011 Grand Final is one that immediately springs to mind for me. I'd even have this year's Grand Final up there, simply for the sheer quality of the contest for 2 and a half quarters and then the epic theatre of the final 40 minutes.

Surely you cannot say the Grand Final was not a better game than the North v Giants draw.

I'd also consider:

St Kilda 102 v 82 West Coast (Round 4)
Richmond 77 v Western Bulldogs 55 (Round 7)
Essendon 107 v Carlton 123 (Round 7)
Richmond 63 v Geelong 126 (Round 8)
Western Bulldogs 107 v Carlton 91 (Round 8)
Richmond 87 v Giants 83 (Round 9)
Port Adelaide 77 v Western Bulldogs 96 (Round 9)
Brisbane 102 v Richmond 74 (Round 10)
West Coast 71 v Essendon 87 (Round 11)
Melbourne 97 v Brisbane 75 (Round 12)
Essendon 84 v Richmond 123 (Round 12)
Port Adelaide 91 v Geelong 112 (Round 13)
Port Adelaide 81 v Sydney 71 (Round 15)
Essendon 102 v Sydney 109 (Round 20)
Geelong 65 v Giants 84 (Round 21)
Brisbane 125 v West Coast 87 (Round 23)

Now, I'm not saying any of those games are better than whichever one ends up winning the poll (for what it's worth I voted for the West Coast v Richmond game, and Adelaide v Melbourne would have been my #2 pick). All I'm trying to demonstrate is that you can have matches of exceptional quality where the final margin doesn't necessarily indicate that.

I am sure we could all add to this list from todays AFL site
Stephen May comes to mind for me

Metricon Stadium was an injury graveyard for the Lions in 2021, so they'd love a clean bill of health any time they play on the Suns' home turf next season. Cam Rayner ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament at the ground during the pre-season, and then Eric Hipwood did likewise in a re-arranged game against St Kilda in round 17. Daniel Rich suffered a similar fate at the ground way back in 2014. Some Lions fans think the venue is cursed for their club. – Michael Whiting

It's just a crap ground in general really. I honestly think the surface wasn't the worst (Docklands wins that award); it still hasn't recovered right after the Commonwealth Games - but the stadium itself is just horrid. The roof does 8/10ths of bugger all for afternoon games since you sit facing direct sunlight for most of the game, and the logistics of getting to and from the place are just idiotic. The closest train station still needs a bus shuttle to connect to unless you want to walk in the gutter of the roads between. They didn't even bother servicing the place with the light rail for the local patrons either - there's nothing that remotely goes close to the stadium from the GCLR.

The plans for the Olympics look really promising at least. Massive extensions to public transport.

Won't stop it smelling like a swamp though.

That's also just the ones they do call. It's easy to forget the throws etc that are never called
