Western Bulldogs!!!
You know, a lot of very handy players, even superstars, have had 30 seconds of their 15 minutes of fame at the Bulldogs. Do you remember that some of the following players ever played for Footscray? All of them played the majority of their footy at another club - and had by far the most success elsewhere. Probably Murray Rance rates the highest in No. of Footscray games ratio. The emergencies comprise those players who, whilst listed by the Doggies, never played a senior game. All of the others managed at least one. Pretty good centre-line hey?

Geoff Raines was residntially bound to the doggies, but somehow ended up at Richmond. What about that memorable two time coach of Fitzroy Alan Macconnell? He played at doggieland. And did anyone mention Robbie McGhie who played his best footy at the Tigers. And Tom Alvin who was traded 'sight unseen' to Carlton by Shane O'Sullivan. Also Fred Cook, Keven Sait and Mark Fotheringham would have played in close to 15 VFA premierships for Port and Willy between them after being at the doggies earlier in their career. (this is getting depressing)

Blimey - Russell Tweedale. Red head from St Kilda right? Great team jboyar. Pretty obscure, which is exactly what I was after. Don't remember Peers or Linke..& how could I forget Emmett Dunn. He used to play 2 games a year vs Essendon because he did OK on Paul Salmon.

Speaking of great gets: LY - I suspect a misspent youth! Too much trivia in your brain

Was Alvin part of a deal to get Brian Royal?

BTW I remember 3 more: Darren Collins, Russell Shields & Wayne Shand (and now Andrew Wills). I once sat next to an old couple at Zagames Bar & Bistro out at Holmesglen. We got chatting & it turns out that their son used to play league footy - "but you wouldn't know him" they said. "He played nearly 20 games for the Tigers in the late 80s and crossed to Footscray but didn't play in the seniors." "Wayne Shand?" I offered? I reckon they would have shouted me drinks for the rest of the night had I asked them to. Their reaction was magic

Actually, my memory for stats fails me, but the rest is true!

Wayne Shand played in the early 1980s - 12 games for Richmond between 1982-84. Ended up at Footscray in 86.

Royal was zoned to Footscray, was 22 when first played in 1983, there was a story that Hart didnt like him that why he didnt come to Footscray earlier.

I think Alvin got poached by Carlton and the dogs must of got something. Same as carlton got Gleeson from Fitzroys zone , the VFL , of course did nothing to protect the weaker clubs
