So what is the difference between primary and development list? Is there a selection requirement of some sort?

A development list player has to be 19yo or under and teams have to play one under 19 and one under 23yo player.

  • List structures for 2021 will be as follows:
    • Non-AFL clubs can list up to 46 players, including 40 x primary listed players and 6 development list players.
    • AFL aligned clubs can list up to 36 players, including 30 x primary listed players and 6 x development list players.
    • AFL clubs can list up to 30 players, including 24 x primary list players and 6 x development list players.
  • An additional rookie list of two players is available to all VFL teams which will include NGA players and players who meet the AFL category B Rookie criteria.
  • A father/son rule will be introduced in 2020 which allows a club to list a player whose father played 100 games or more for the club (including AFL and AFL aligned clubs). These players will be listed on a club’s development list.

I'd say that most of the development list that we've nominated are probably technically on the primary list

edit: Granted these are 2020 rules so I don't know if they were changed or not.

Bulldogs have really created a great VFL Culture similar to teams like Werribee, Williams and Port Melbourne

Players stay long term to improve themselves while always having the option to play VFL

Maple has done a great job

Interesting Preston stayed on.
He had an impressive game in the TAC cup on the weekend. Might get looked at in the mid-season draft.

Write up from Draft Central-

Preston was one of the unlucky players to miss getting drafted last year after getting a combine invite, but he will certainly have scouts thinking twice about passing him during the mid-season intake after an exciting display up forward. The crafty 181cm left-footer was causing headaches early on, winning plenty of the ball up forward with his first goal coming tight on the boundary from a strong mark, before coolly slotting the snap goal. His second goal was just as impressive, burning off his opponent with speed and then slotting a nice running goal from long range. His next two goals would come in the next quarter, all using his forward smarts with nice crumbing goals. It wasn’t just his crafty work at ground level, as he showed in the second quarter with a really strong contested mark at centre half-forward. Preston would have a quieter second half but he finished the game with an impressive 18 disposals, five marks, and kicked 4.2.

Did see those rules today looking around for an answer, but as you say, they were before last season, and we appear to have listed 27 players. Saw something about a maximum of 28 posted in here today, so maybe VitalDread might be able to shed some light?

Fergus Greene kicked 5 for the Hawks VFL last week. I would like to see him get an opportunity at another club.

Not just that we passed on him, but we drafted Scott instead and moved him to defence...
I really like Scott and was able to see him dominate the VFL. He was not what we need, especially down back.

Stevie Wonder could see that we needed speed and crumbling in our forward line. Anywho Bevo knows best

How has Butler been going in the practice games. Seems to be the forgotten man of 2020 debutants and from comments on here Baku appears to have gone past him.
Hes been good
I didn't noticed him much in some games because how different his body looks now
A lot stronger in the upper body
Can now break.more tackles

Def a long term project but will worth the investment

Kayo Sports, Australia’s number one sports streaming service, has made its offering even more attractive by adding a series of new local sports to its unrivalled catalogue available live and on-demand.

In a bid to boost community sport in Australia, Kayo will stream matches from select local leagues across the country for free via Kayo Freebies.
Kayo’s local sports offering will be headlined by the VFL and Intrust Super Cup – feeder competitions for the AFL and NRL respectively – and the National Junior Basketball Championships, which over 770 young basketballers are set to compete in this year.

Kayo Freebies is available by simply downloading the Kayo App or visiting the website at kayosports.com.au/freebies and creating an account.
Kayo Freebies are free, and no credit card details are required to sign up and start streaming.
Kayo’s coverage of the VFL and Intrust Super Cup will include two exclusive VFL games per round and one exclusive Saturday fixture per round in the Intrust Super Cup, with all coverage live and free.

One of the new sports involved with Kayo under the Local Sport program, the Victorian Football League, this season merged with the North Eastern Australian Football League to include teams from NSW and Queensland.

AFL head of talent pathways and state league competitions Tristan Salter said he was eager to see what the VFL and Kayo could do together.

“We are so excited that VFL footy is back,” he said. “All 22 clubs play a vital role in keeping their suburban and regional networks engaged. They are pillars of their local communities and so important to growing and nurturing our national code.

“Kayo’s new streaming offering to state league competitions is a real boost for the VFL across Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland and we know the legion of supporters are looking forward to the return of the VFL season and there is much for fans to look forward to, whether that be attending matches or watching on Kayo.”
