TV massivley shapes perceptions of the umpiring. Probably depends which telecast you watched, which events they chose to slow mo and replay and whether or not you are listening to the commentators. I didn't watch the first quarter (I prefer Carlton's hopeless quarters). It just looked standard to me - missed a blatant throw that was highlighted - a few others looked dodgy to me - a strange one to Cripps - they've tightened up holding the ball - but haven't got it consistent yet, so there's a fair few that I can't tell whether it's the right call or not. I thought they'd stopped paying the pointing at the screen 50s, but you got one of those. As always a fair few grey calls that could have been paid or not - that's the game.
I'm not going to go through every decision but I think it was pretty well documented on the main board from others live. And last week I was at the game and it was just as egregious. It's just been horrible. But like I said if you go into the game believing umpiring won't matter it makes sense that you come out and think it was evenly umpired.

And this isn't Carlton-specific I have pointed out umpiring in other games as well not being of the necessary standard on BF.

Pies lost to Adelaide at the MCG by 14
Blues lost to Adelaide at AO by 28

Given the home ground advantages... those results seem to say its fairly even.. onto next week!
Both teams are shit.

Of course it influences games. As does the bounce of the ball. Or where the miskicks land. It's just part of the luck that impacts results. I might start making threads about being cheated by the ball whenever we get an unlucky bounce. They do say it's got a mind of it's own - and some days that little ****er is a cheat.

TV massivley shapes perceptions of the umpiring. Or the crowd when watching live. It's like complaining about the bounce of the ball.
Give me a break mate, do you want me to put every complaint about an umpire from a Pie supporter in here? Sometimes you blurt out some absolute dribble.

With respect, it's not. A bounce is complete luck it is not an active decision being made or not made by a human
Pies won one of their 3 flags in 60 years through a bad bounce of the ball.

What are you on about? Umpires aren't human.

From the perspective of a footy team. If neither side has control of the errors, it's luck. Whether the umpire saw it is luck. The umpires interpretation is luck.

If you really want to get down to whether it is luck from all perspectives - nothing is, the balls bounce isn't luck in terms of physics.

If I see something and choose not to call it that is not luck it is an active decision I am making. If I see something and choose to interpret it in one way and then a completely different way 10 minutes later that is another an active decision I am making. It's not luck.

Luck is the bounce of the ball. Luck is a flip of the coin. Umpiring is literally a profession. Does that mean they should never make a mistake or they will see everything. Of course not. But the standard right now is ridiculously poor and that's not because of luck.

It's all about the perspective you're looking at. Nothing is luck if you choose a perspective where it isn't luck. The bounce of the ball and the flip of a coin aren't luck from the perspective of physics. But from the perspective of a footy team, umpire errors are luck - unless the player is tricking the umpire - and then they're skill.

Everyone complains at the time. But it's the next day. The supporters of any club and the media need to move on and stop carrying on. It's a ridiculously hard game to umpire - umpire errors are just a part of the game - and they always will be - and even if they aren't actual errors people disagree on decisions in close up slow motion as we allow a fair degree of infringement against the rule before it's enough to warrant a free. That's the game.

Look at the internet instead of living in here, the decisions had no effect on the game as we were rubbish but there were some poor decisions last night. Hope it improves for tonights big game.

Which part of the internet, Robbo? The parts with the egragious outrage and injustice over the bad luck of an umpire not seeing a throw - or whatever it is Carlo is pissed off about? Isn't Carlo's misfortune enough?

I posted 20 minutes after the game and then Fadge continued this morning. Apologies for sticking to the topic.

And then you started whinging about the North game as well.

You should be thankful that the umpires don't have as bad decision making or skill execution as the Navy Blue spuds. They'd make an exponential number of howlers and even when they got the decision right, they'd miss their mouths with the whistle.

Do your blokes even know the rules anyway? When the umpire calls stand in the last quarter, the whole team doesn't have to stay still for the rest of the game.

And back to the norm with trolling. No one is forcing you to respond. And yet you complain about the topic 🙄

I hope this helps with your umpire based suffering.

Thanks Robbo. Nice to see a return of primary school references. Walshy may have left you, but he'll always be with you.

Umpires are often going to make some absolute howlers. It's the nature of the beast. Just hope it doesn't come in a crucial point in a close game.

Sme howlers last night Taddy even though they made no difference to the result.

I hope you can escape whoever is forcing you to reply
It's the umpires. They're evil ****ers. Straight after reaming Carlton they came over and are now forcing me to respond
