Footy forums in the Age

It was with interest that I read the article in the Age on Saturday about footy forums.

This in turn led me to check a couple out.

I went to Puntroadend. What a bunfight!!! I thought it would be about the footy, but no, all I found was a bunch of jerks fighting amongst themselves.

Not a good advert for our club.

There were racist threads, anti gay threads, threads about threads, posters just talking crap about themselves.

One of the moderators was busy telling everyone how great she was a chef and was accepting all this backslapping about the Age article.

And it turns out that she thinks James Taylor is a great muso!!!!

What the???

I thought it would be about the footy; boy was I wrong.

So I checked out this forum and found it to be footy footy footy. Sure, there's a bit of wild stuff and some disagreements, but none of the self-congratulatory rubbish served up at Puntroadend.

So, here I am, a new member of the Big Footy family. Thanks for having me!

Not because (as they occasionally believe) we are in anyway oppossed to them. But because a handful of loud and obnoxious posters on this forum can't see past their exile from the forum.

Every single PRE thread turns abusive, defamatory and ends up rather pathetic.

half the posts on puntroadend are patting rosy on the back so that they dont get kicked off the forum. lol. and no weaver i am not bitter about pre, i have never posted there. i just think its funny.

As for death threats...don't need to be on Big Footy for that. I got one of those at work the other day via the phone. Been looking over my shoulder ever since. The words: "these people mean business" has been ringing in my ears forfive days now!

I only visit PRE because someone called 'CC Tiger' travels where ever to watch the intra-cub matches and our Regional matches and he also watches every training session so its only good for that, I never post.

As someone who reads both forums, rarely posts, and has no allegiances, let me say both sites have their share of idiots, hotheads and space cadets along with interesting and informed posters.

I read Weaver, Evo, Redford, Dyer'ere etc posts with interest, and kind of skim the rest.

How anyone can generate feuds and animosity via a footy forum is beyond me.

by "etc" I meant I read other posters as well as those named who contribute interesting stuff. Plenty on both sites. If I thought I was a luminary I'd probably post more.

I also stop to read the occasional infantile knee-jerk one liner you'll be happy to hear.

I've never hung around PRE. I went there and thought **** this its a joke surely.

Happy at my two current Tiger forums.

I dont know who is a PRE member except for Kembo, but he's a n00b and when I went to check for picks from the Praccy game I from some stupid **** trying to be funny at Kembo's expense, never continued to find those photos, not worth supporting Rosy with more hits in a forum like that.

There is no inside joke I think, if so I'm missing out. People dont like Rosy, she is too whiny etc. her forum is joke. I guess thats the joke.

Apologies if there is PRE supporters on here but thats my honest opinion.

I'm on both, as you might have guessed (same name...I got yelled at on here for comments I made on PRE about Limbach and Roach last year... ).

I personally find that PRE is good for knowledge, but occasionally very windy in expressing that knowledge. Whereas BF is more casual, probably more entertaining overall, but I'd say the ratio of ratbags to decent posters is much higher on here than on PRE...which, while sometimes fun to read, can get irritating.

If I had to choose, I'd say PRE. Having said that, you can't really compare BF with PRE...there isn't the diversity on PRE that there naturally is on here. Comparing THIS board with PRE though...I'd still lean toward PRE, it is more informative and probably more active, but a little dry with its content...

Now I'll hide from the anti-PRE's as they blow up my letterbox...

the thing that i find interesting on pre is it reads more like a chatroom. heaps of one line comments and responses to each other. i am surprised weaver hasnt closed this thread yet paddles, pre bashing is a particular bugbear of his.
