i've read footy records from the 70's which incorporate no nonsense facts and information, to todays overpriced waste of brazilian rainforests.
reading it on the dunny, they have revamped it a bit with some reasonably interesting stuff including some in depth reports on players and their careers motivations etc, the statistics are very well prepared and most interesting, however it is a shocking AFL propaganda tool. it still has a long way to go some observations
- "ask kouta" this is a blatant falsity as kouta cannot write. it's no doubt some ghostwriter from the "collingwood newsletter" (herald sun)
- too much advertising. can't the AFL leave the record like the players jock straps, as the two last advertising untarnised areas in this corporation
- where are the ammo results each week. the papers can do it, so why not the voice of football. ammos are one of the building blocks for the league
- any small reference to fitzroy always follows with some 'blurb' on how 'perhaps other former Fitzroy supporters who haven't joined the great supporting fun at Brisbane will now take up a membership' propagnda
- tim watson for expert comments on coaching and strategies. may as well ask warwick fairfax for advice on investing your family's fortunes. timmy knows slightly less than tony shaw.
- too much "collingwood this collingwood that". the may 25 record has a load of bull on wanting to see the maggies successfull again. don't think this is a bad thing, though don't want to hear it from a theoretically independent publication
- dipper. say no more, with his far from zany dares copied from the Lip in the old days. a bit more daring like a nude streak down bourke st mall, would be far more hilarious in my books.
gee i miss seeing the VFL royboys every saturday..sniff
ps. i didn't buy the footy record, just seagulled it.
