Either way it's a testament to the surreal kicking qualities of the kicker, but I thought it was simply to do with the level of control - ie That the kicker chose to have the ball land that way (for an indiscriminate reason).I always assumed laces out meant that the ball hit the target on the chest with the laces pointed away from him to avoid bruising.
