in terms of commercially available recordings the VFL Fable singer ones date from 1972
being released a 45rpm singles. There was a flexi disk of 6 Tasmanian songs
which dates from 72 or 73
I'm assuming the WAFL and SANFL would have got on the marketing bandwagon at the same time

what was the Woodville woodpeckers song?
can anyone provide the lyric or a song file?

can't find any thing on line except some references to the
SANFL - Amoco record
From elsewhere on BigFooty ( https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/woodville-warriors-peckers-club-song.336006/#post-7821225 ):-
Come on ya Peckers
Come on ya Peckers
It's our Woody Woodpeckers song
Come on ya Peckers
Come on ya Peckers
And we're yelling it all day long

We're the green and gold
And we're brave and bold
And we fight right to the end
We never say die
As we aim for the sky
Determined to make it the trend

Come on ya Peckers
Come on ya Peckers
It's our Woody Woodpeckers song
Come on ya Peckers
Come on ya Peckers
And we're yelling it all day long

Cos we never give in
For we know it's a sin
So we lift our game to win
Come on ya Peckers
Come on ya Peckers
It's the theme we all join in

Not sure if it changed when they became the Warriors in 1983 (which I think Blighty may have been involved with)?

This was on the same page on BigFooty as the Peckers song, hopefully it's quite accurate:-

We're the Warriors from Woodville,
Woodville Warriors we are.
All fair dinkum to the green and gold,
Um er, um er, um er.
Through rough and tough we stick together,
Determination will be there.
One for all and all for one,
As one we shall achieve it,
For we are the mighty Warriors.

I've no idea what the "Um er" bit is meant to represent, presumably the poster couldn't remember the words from that line! The Peckers song probably never inspired the team to reach great heights, and the club's image certainly needed to be toughened up, so the change to the Warriors was a sensible one!!

Edit: Here's another version, who knows which is more accurate:- https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/club-songs.113257/

Woodville (to the tune of Yankie Doodle)

We're the Warriors from Woodville
The mighty Warriors we are
Australias colours mighty Green and Gold
****( Cant remember next line ) ******
The premiership is what we aim for
Determination will be there
Lets hear a cheer for its our year
As one we shall achieve it
For we are the mighty Warriors

An Essendon song from the 70s

We've played the game Australian style since 1873
and whenever we play the other teams know
we're sure hard to beat

We're from Essendon a proud old name
we've had our share of glory and fame
and every time we've played the game
the feelings just the same

Zoom! the bombers are soaring
Zoom! the bombers are roaring

We've out to be the premier team
we're as keen as we've ever been

Zoom! the Bombers are soaring
Zoom! the bombers are roaring

we're not a team to let you down
come September we'll be around

The dons have worn the red and black
since 1873
and whenever we played the other teams
know we're sure hard to beat.
We've had many names that rose to fame
many who just made their name
We're proud of every mothers son who played the game

Zoom! the bombers are soaring
Zoom! the crowds are roaring

they've come to see the mighty dons
beat the others when the pressures on

Zoom! the bombers are soaring
Zoom! the bombers are roaring

We're not a team to let you down
come September we'll be around

Zoom! the bombers are soaring
Zoom! the bombers are roaring

We're out to be the premier team
we're as keen as we've ever been

zoom! the bombers are soaring
zoom! the bombers are roaring
zoom the bombers are soaring
zoom the bombers are roaring
zoom.....

Richmond song to 1961

Onward the tigers

To the tune of Waltzing Matilda

We’re the boys from Richmond

We’re the boys from Tiger-land

We proudly wear the yellow and black

And when it comes to football

We play the same tiger brand

Right from the bounce

We attack we attack

Onward the tigers onward the tigers

Eat ‘em alive boys

And never give in

For the honoured tradition

The glory of old Richmond

We play the game

And we play it to win

So onward the tigers

We’ve got the team

And there’s nothing it lacks

we’ve go the heat and we’ve got the skill

We’ve got everything at Richmond

We are yellow and blacks

The Quiz 13/08/09
A new song by Mr Gh F. Foreman,
entitled " The Flag," is dedicated to
tbe Sturt Football Club 1909 season,
Mr Foreman, who will be remembered
as the author of "Sweet Eyes of
Jet," which gained third prize at
the Unley Competitions in 1907, is a
supporter of the Sturt team, and
thinking the feelings of excited
barrackers should give vent in some
thing patriotic, he has written the
above. The music has been arranged
by Mr C. Johnstone, of Unley, and
is sot to march time. A catchy air
favors the chorus. The song should
be popular among Sturt barrackers.

Affirmative, it is.

Is that based off Chelsea FC's song?

Given the high population of British expats in WA, it wouldn't be surprising.

Always thought more likely to be from The 1972 Touring Australian Cricket team to the UK. I did see recently one of the junior Tasmania state teams using the same theme too.

Are you certain this was sung to the tune of Waltzing Matilda- how do you know?
I'm having trouble making it rhyme to W/M?

Back-story first – Richmond’s original song (or at least the one immediately pre-dating ‘Tigerland’) was ‘Onward the Tigers’, set to the tune of ‘Waltzing Matilda’. It’s not bad, but it lacks punch.

Also, ‘Waltzing Matilda’, with its sorrow, despair and grim lesson to avoid suicidal outlaws and their haunted billabongs has always creeped me out a bit, so I can understand their wish to move on.

In 1962, cabaret artist Jack Malcolmson, who was performing regularly at the Richmond Social Club around that time, was asked to come up with a new tune.

He settled on ‘Row Row Row’ (music by James Monaco, lyrics by William Jerome) from 1912, which was part of the successful Ziegfeld Follies Broadway productions.

A set of fresh lyrics later, and rumour has it that when Malcolmson performed it for the club for the first time, he received a standing ovation.

There’s so much to like about ‘We’re from Tigerland’. It’s jubilant, determined and instantly recognisable.

talk about an earlier one here: (bad print)

I can hear the Tigers roaring
When the sun goes down at 6
Oh, what did we do? what did we do”
Did we eat ‘em all alive?
Did we eat ‘em?
When the battles nearly ended,
And the feathers start to fly,
What did we do? What did we do?
We just eat ‘em all alive
And can we play and can we stay?
And can we bump?
Just a little bit, and fight?
Just a little bit
Or I’ll say. When the final game is over,
And its nearly half past five
Oh what did we do? What did we do?
We just ate ‘em all alive

SANFL - Amoco record

In 1971 Amoco did a promotion with the SANFL clubs, to record club songs on vinyl. You can tell as they all have the same keyboard sound, drums and singers.
- Glenelg - Tiger for Me
- North Adelaide - It's a great great club
- Norwood - Grand old flag
- Port - The pride of Port Adelaide
- Sturt - Grand old flag
- West - We're a happy team at bloodhounds
- Torrens - We're the mighty flying Eagles
- Woodville - Woody woodpecker song

However, I haven't been able to find the songs for Central Districts or South Adelaide. They both have old versions of their old club songs on YouTube, but they are from the 80's. Apparently, Centrals had a song called 'Pride of the plains' at one point, that might be it.

Fight for the right (South)
Fly the blue and white flag high (South)
Here comes the mighty Bulldogs (Centrals)
This time we'll get it right (Centrals)
