Hard to say if he'll make the grade or not, but I don't really see him being the key defender that some people were touting him as on here. Parker seems more like the Ben Hart type (sounds like a big wrap I know, but that wasn't really the intention) who won't necessarily take and negate the opposition's best forward - does he have the size for it? - but will play a more attacking role out of a BP/HBF taking those invaluable marks and providing rebound out of defence.

(edit) Just having written this it occurs to me that macca23 said the exact opposite of Aidan Parker less than 6 months ago... either he's changed his style dramatically in that time or we just see things differently.

You're right Dave. I did say the exact opposite in respect of Aidan Parker based on his pre-season games. My comments at that time were that he was purely a negating type of defender who didn't care how many kicks he got as long as his opponent got none, and that's exactly how he was. I also said at that time that he would have to add the running rebound from defence to his armoury if he was going to make it at AFL level.

I've been watching his stats each week and they have increased from small numbers at the beginning of the season to high possession numbers for a defender as the season has worn on, which indicates that he has been working hard to improve this aspect of his game with success.

You can bet that the AFC would have told Parker that they wanted him to work on this area of his game, and well done by Aidan. Going by your comments, and the improvement over time in his match stats, it looks like he's done exactly that.

I'd be very surprised if he wasn't elevated to the main list at the end of the season. He certainly appears to be a better bet than Matthew Smith, who will probably be delisted at the end of the year.

As macca23 said he has really knuckled down and added another string to his game. Earlier in the season he was getting less than 10 possesions a game. As the season has progressed he has rebounded more and as a result he has picked up more touches.

Personally I think its a remarkable effort for a player to change his style as much as he has in less than one season. He will probably need to add a bit of muscle (currently 90kg) but he definetly has the height (193 cm) to be a key position player. I reckon he will start his AFL career as a BP or a HBF as you suggested and will gradually find himself as a permanent FB. He is pretty athletic for a player of his height and has got the pace off the mark to go with quicled forwards.

He might be the "replacement" for Smart once he retires as he is capable of playing on some smalls, mediums and talls. As I have said somewhere before, it would be surprising if AFC didn't promote Parker at the end of the year considering that this years draft is thin when it comes to talls.

Just to make Blues_Girl happy, Matthew Smith can stay with Sturt for the rest of his career as far as I am concerned.;)

I forgot to put my tips up last week, but believe me, I got 7/8. ;)

This week is tougher!

COLLINGWOOD to beat Richmond (Confident)
SYDNEY to beat Carlton (Confident)
HAWTHORN to beat Melbourne (50-50, depends which Demons come to play)
BRISBANE to beat Essendon (confident)
West Coast to beat Port Adelaide (Based on Port's current form, but I have to think more about this one)
GEELONG to beat Western Bulldogs (50-50, agree with Stiffy's comments)
KANGAROOS to beat St. Kilda (confident)
ADELAIDE to beat Fremantle (50-50, more confident if Carey plays)

I am changing to Melbourne over Hawthorn due to the ins and outs but otherwise I am sticking with the above.

Good luck everyone!

COLLINGWOOD to beat Richmond (confident)
SYDNEY to beat Carlton (confident)
HAWTHORN to beat Melbourne (70-30)
BRISBANE to beat Essendon(70-30)
PORT ADELAIDE to beat West Coast (50-50)
GEELONG to beat Bulldogs(60-40)
KANGAROOS to beat St Kilda (confident)
ADELAIDE to beat Fremantle(confident)

As for the Subiaco factor that disappeared this weekend with Brisbane winning after being beaten in Subi by West Cost last week.

Adelaide will take that one step further this week by winning in Subi and then winning the week after. :)

I'm sticking with these, but there are some real worry games this week. Collingwood, Sydney and Kangaroos look to be the only certain winners.

My earlies:

WEST COAST to beat Hawthorn (confident)
KANGAROOS to beat Geelong (60-40)
ESSENDON to beat Melbourne (60-40)
WESTERN BULLDOGS to beat Richmond (50-50)
PORT ADELAIDE to beat Brisbane (50-50, Leppitch is a HUGE out)
SYDNEY to beat Fremantle (confident)
COLLINGWOOD to beat Carlton (confident)
ADELAIDE to beat St Kilda (confident)

Richmond-Bulldogs and Brisbane-Port Adelaide are the only tough ones IMO.

I'll go for the Bulldogs who should beat the insipid Richmond.

And I'll go for Brisbane as well as I just can't tip against the Lions at the Gabba.

These are my late early tips and my early final tips. ;)

WEST COAST to beat Hawthorn (confident)
KANGAROOS to beat Geelong (60-40)
ESSENDON to beat Melbourne (70-30)
WESTERN BULLDOGS to beat Richmond (50-50)
BRISBANE to beat Port (60-40, home ground advantage decides)
SYDNEY to beat Fremantle (confident)
COLLINGWOOD to beat Carlton (yes sir!!)
ADELAIDE to beat St Kilda (confident)

I agree with Dave that Richmond-Bulldogs and Brisbane-Port Adelaide are the toughest ones - on paper. There has to be some doubt about the Roos v Cats, and Dons v Demons games as well.

Port winning would be a better result for us.

Am sticking with these tips as I have to put mine in early this week and I doubt teams would change my mind much anyway.

Port and Brisbane remains the real tough one IMO.

Richmond look more and more stupid on and off the field.

Just as the baton changed from Essendon to Brisbane at the GABBA back in 2001, I reckon we'll see Port take it this weekend...

Final Tips for this week

WEST COAST to beat Hawthorn (confident)
KANGAROOS to beat Geelong (50-50)
ESSENDON to beat Melbourne (50-50)
WESTERN BULLDOGS to beat Richmond (50-50)
PORT ADELAIDE to beat Brisbane (50-50, me roughie :( )

COLLINGWOOD to beat Carlton (very confident)
ADELAIDE to beat St Kilda (confident)

Tough round to pick, too many 50-50s:(

Originally i went for Brisbane but I think they will struggle to match up on Port's talls with Leppitch a HUGE loss. so Port by a whisker.

P.S. Port win works in our favour too!!!!!!:)
