Well, TJ how are you doing with the tips so far?

I'm sitting with 5 out of 5 as of tonight. I guess quite a few others are too.

Apart from Adelaide, there are a couple of dicey ones on Sunday. My tips for Sunday are

Adelaide to beat Freo

Melbourne to beat Hawthorn

Geelong to beat Bulldogs

As I said, the last two were the hardest to pick IMO.

Ended up with 7 but really angry about falling for selecting the handbag brigade Geelong, a team for which I've never had any time.

As kirky said "- go for the gut instinct and the first choice (don't procrastinate, it only makes it worse)" Sadly I didn't follow my gut instinct on this one!!! Bugger!!

Same here. My gut instict told me go with Bulldogs, but me being me I had to analyse it and picked Geelong on the basis that they had better pre-season form( ) and the lack of talls at Western Bulldogs. I momentarily forgot that doggies have some freaky match winners in Darcy, Brown and Johnson.

I guess 7/8 is not bad for week one.:)

Thank yas.:D Just to prove it, this was my post on a tipping thread on the main boards during the week.

I had the same macca23, and now I'm kicking myself for tipping Geelong.

Still, 7 isn't bad.

Well done on getting the card, sapaul. Now you set the standard. Myself, 7, the Hawks let me down. Each year you find one side that you just can't work out their form, it may be the Hawks this year for me.
Well Hawthorn were level with two minutes to go. So you got pretty close there! I couldn't work out Hawthorn's form last year!

I got 5 right missing out on West Coast, Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs.

Congrats sapaul

I tipped 8 too sapaul.

First time since 2001.

Last year I tipped 7 three times!!

Are you guys in the bigfooty tipping comp??

Well, I'm depressed.

For 30 odd years, I've studied ins and outs, form, head to head records, home ground advantage etc. and thought I'd turned into a half decent tipster.

Then, this weekend, my 2 year old daughter tipping (as far as I can tell) purely on the basis of her favourite animal got 8/8 in her first ever attempt at footy tipping. I got 6.

Thats a classic.!!!!!!:D :D :D :D :D :D

Tipped 7 last week. I Generally tip reasonably well, and I guess the secret is to tip with ur brain, not ur heart. But it is hard when there are so many inconsistent teams all around the same mark. Makes for hard tipping.

I got 7 tips with Geelong letting me down.

Im trying your theory this week Macca ( tipped them Sunday night):D

Good man TJ!! :D

Very hard round this week, with several games in the unsure category and could well change some of my selections after seeing the teams.

Early tips are:

COLLINGWOOD to beat Carlton (certainty)

ESSENDON to beat Melbourne (pretty sure)

ADELAIDE to beat St Kilda (certainty)

FREMANTLE to beat Sydney (pretty sure)

BRISBANE to beat Port Adelaide (certainty)

WEST COAST to beat Hawthorn (50 - 50)

KANGAROOS to beat Geelong (50 - 50)

RICHMOND to beat Bulldogs (50 - 50)

I think I'll definitely be sticking with the top 5 but I'm wobbly as hell on the last 3.

Who have you gone for so far in the coming round TJ??

Or anybody else for that matter!!

Iv'e gone for.

Collingwood(certainty)
Eseendon(confident)
Adelaide(more than confident)
Sydney(gut feeling)
Pork(gut feeling)
West Coast(no idea why)
Geelong(gut feeling)
Richmond(gut feeling)

:D

ADELAIDE to beat St Kilda (confident)

FREMANTLE to beat Sydney (reasonably confident since @ Subi)

BRISBANE to beat Port Adelaide (confident, Port too many player under done/missing)

WEST COAST to beat Hawthorn (Reasonably confident, No Spider and Thompson, Chick back in for WC)

KANGAROOS to beat Geelong (50 - 50)

RICHMOND to beat Bulldogs (50 - 50, Who will match up on Richo???)

Yeah i tipped 7 winners last week...damn hawthorn losing by a goal:(

Ditto - as rule of thumb i give strong consideration to teams that lose the previous week - depending on differing scenarios.

And this week all the winners from round 1 play all the losers. Would it be possible to go against my theory and have 8 teams 2-0 and the other 8 0-2 - reckon Jacko etal would start to panic a bit and tinker with the system to try and level it up!!

Here's mine, but they are subject to change once teams are anounced.

COLLINGWOOD to beat Carlton (almost certainty)

MELBOURNE to beat Essendon (50-50)

ADELAIDE to beat St Kilda (almost certainty)

FREMANTLE to beat Sydney (Subi factor)

BRISBANE to beat Port Adelaide (confident)

HAWTHORN to beat Weagles (Weagles need to prove they are over the travel bug)

GEELONG to beat Kangaroos (absolutely 50 - 50)

WESTERN BULLDOGS to beat Richo & Johnson (50 - 50)

Finally sttled for my tips this week. This week is a really tough one. Here are my tips

COLLINGWOOD to beat Carlton

ESSENDON to beat Melbourne (just) Reason: Dees haven't beaten bomber in last 6 i think. Essendon with Feltcher are a different side. Hopefully their rucks can control White

ADELAIDE to beat St Kilda Reason: Couldn't possibly tip St. Kilda. We are a better side and close to full strength while a lot of Saints are inexperienced or underdone. Class will win in the end

FREMANTLE to beat Sydney Reason: This one is 50-50. went with freo because they grow another leg at home and they get back underdone Justin Longmuir who will at least provide a target up forward. Hopefully they play Pavlich at CHF

BRISBANE to beat Port Adelaide Reason: Pretty confident with this one. Brogan is a big inclusion, but port are missing too many regulars coming up against a near full strength Lions team

WEST COAST to beat Hawthorn Reason: WC are a better team at this stage. Cousins is playing this week and Gardiner is in good form. Hawks have no ruckman to take on and beat Gardiner and Cox. Hawks are missing the likes of Everitt, Thompson and Holland. Only worry here is a travel factor from Perth to Tasmania but I did hear its a direct flight which should helpp a bit

KANGAROOS to beat Geelong Reason: Toss of the coin this one. Went with the winning side from last week and cats will need to improve dramatrically to win this one

BULLDOGS to beat Richmond Reason: Sorry Kane!!!!!! Just think doggiest are better in the middle I cannot see Tigers negating Brown and Johnson. One concern is doggies' small backline having to contain Richo and Stafford
