Yep, dont see any problems with it, i enjoyed reading the extensive review of the draftees and found out a lot of information about my club's draftess, so i think there should be a pre-season draft list done.
The thing about a pre-season draft is nearly all the players will be ex-AFL, and we aren't going to bother writing profiles up for them
I could be wrong but I think the PSD draft goes something like this:
1. Richmond
2. Collingwood
3. Carlton
4. Fremantle
5. Essendon
6. St Kilda
7. St Kilda
Now I'll admit my knowledge of the veterans list and all that isn't great. According to section 14.2 of the new CBA:
The minimum number of Players on the Club’s Primary List and Veterans List combined shall be 38.
I take that to mean a club can have as high as 40 players (38 + 2 veterans, like Hawthorn) or 38 (36 + 2 veterans, like St Kilda). Therefore the Saints may be able to pass on one or both of their picks, but I'll have to check that. It wouldn't surprise me given their salary cap problems.
A possible mock PSD off the top of my head is:
1. Richmond - Steve McKee
2. Collingwood - Blake Caracella
3. Carlton - Trent Knobel
4. Fremantle - Jarred Schofield
5. Essendon - Mark Porter
6. St Kilda - Underage player?
7. St Kilda - Pass
What are people's thoughts on that?
As Weaver pointed out, you could have a fair stab at who the Lions and Swans will take, but the other clubs is very hard to predict, especially if training lists aren't published. It's usually a pretty safe bet the WA and SA clubs will take players from their states as well.
The breakdown last year was 21 underage (12 from the TAC Cup, 9 from other states) and 36 overage. Of the overage, 15 had been on AFL lists the year before.
Maybe if they do publish the training lists we'll publish a small profile on any new players that we haven't covered previously.
