From the papers and a close friend form the club Essendon haven't shown any or much interest in Mark McGough so I dobut we will pick him up with our fourth round selection. If we are to pick him up it would probably be with our PSD selection.

As for the fourth round pick we would proabably look at a defender such as Tim Hill or Andrew Gilham.

Pick 61 - Sydney: James Podsiadly.
Big fella with an outside show. Could surprise a few come Saturday I reckon, and footydraft haven't even touched on him.

It wouldn't be a huge surprise - he has been on an AFL list before and kicked 10 for Werribee in a VFL game this year.

In reality the last 20 picks are a complete guess and there are literally 200 players who could stake a claim for those spots.

Guess you're right there, GoaldenHawk. He did boot the 10 goals with Werribee this year and was pretty good the whole season. He is pretty strong and contests well. I just thought that he has been overlooked in the past and has never been a player who has been at all focussed on, even for the final 20 picks, which as you say are a raffle. However, I'd like a few more clubs to punt on a few more physically mature players from various state leagues, instead of picking some guys who take time to develop. Let these young guys develop playing state leagues and if they are all that they promised, then draft them later.

He has been on two rookie lists and was ordinary both times.

I'd be shocked if he got drafted.

I know you're not a fan, Longy. I think it's fair to say his time at Essendon could have been better, but I don't think he was that ordinary at Collingwood. He booted most goals for Williamstown's season in 2002 and I thought grew in stature, though I think had somewhat of an immature attitude. I think his leadership position at Werribee has helped him mature and think he goes about his footy differently from before. Sure, he isn't a Carey, but I think I have certainly seen worse and do believe there are some mediocre talls currently on AFL lists. I don't think Podsiadly falls into this category, and believe he may have something to offer. There is only one way of knowing if he could surprise, though - to draft him.
He has his chance to impress in Sydney this week, and if he fails then, sure, label him as simply a good VFL player. Until then, I am willing to give him one last chance, with his seemingly renewed positive attitude.

I don't even rate him as that. I think he is a handy VFL forward who had a few good games. He can pinch hit in the ruck but I doubt his fitness, work ethic (although this may have improved) and foot skills are good enough to take him to the next level.

He didn't make the VFL team of the year and got votes in two games in the Liston Trophy. At his age (and I know he isn't that old) he would want to be playing a lot more consistent footy than what he has. I just don't think he has the improvement in him to make it at the top.

You are fair on all points, Longy. I thought his season was better than average and couldn't be criticised too much, especially his comeback after injury straight into the Semi Final when not 100%. I'm not sure about this VFL team of the year, a bloke like Nick Stone got in and if I can recall rightly, Podsiadly has slaughtered him on a few occasions. Stone has been promoted to a senior list next season yet again, and I don't think he is anyting special, even though I believe he has a red hot go.
With these competition B and F's it sometimes doesnt do justice to players. A prime example is James Clement: Copeland Trophy and not a Brownlow vote??
As for Podsiadly's foot skills, he is very left-side dominant, but I thought his kicking was reasonable, seeing Werribee gave him the kick-in duty. I think with any player there is scope for improvement with a bit of refining and some hard work. He needs to work on hitting the packs harder and if he can do this combined with improved disposal by foot, I think he can improve somewhat. I probably won't ever agree with you 100%, Longy, but I guess we can wait and see how things pan out over the course of the week while he is up in Sydney.

cheers

Well we've moved him. ;)
Much happier now, but I think we'll go with an older player at 51 (McGough/Murphy)

KG's rumour last night: Danyle Pearce top 10 (I assume that means 10 to Collingwood)

Danyle Pearce with a top 10 pick would be lunacy.

Lol.Yeah I second that motion.I guess the pies do need some speed in the midfield.

Pearce looks like he'd blow away in a stiff breeze.I was watching that u/18 champs game the other day on tape of the game at the cattery.I swear at one stage he got blown up into the air. :D

Ah BTW Goaldenhawk, good work.I see you have Jordan Lewis coming to us at #16 now.God i hope it's true.

There is no way we'll draft Ben Sharp, let alone at 20.

Same thing applies with Byron Murphy at pick 52, Richmond already have a few "wingers" and don't need anymore.

We've shown no interest in Porter whatsoever.

Richmond need talls, and it's been stated by Wallace and Miller we are going after talls.

Saying all though though, i agree with Deledio at 1, Roughead at 4 and Lewis but probably not at 16, more likely at 20 if available.

We will definetly take the best tall left at 12, as Melbourne with picks 13 and 15 are also tall hunting, but am not sure on Deluca.

I am puzzled as to why Jesse D Smith is not included in any of these draft predictions. The young man was a member of the Vic Metro side and best on ground in the TAC Cup final for the Cannons.

He is a nature ball magnet and to quote my father he simply knows were the ball isn't.

I think that Essendon would be better advised to pick this young man as apposed to McGough, Essendon has other midfield options that will allow him to develop over the next couple of years in the reserves rather than trying to bring in a player who is slow and only a gap fill for the next year.
