It's been going this way for a few weeks now, and has reached ridiculous levels this weekend. They just will not blow the whistle. How many more blokes are going to be ridden in to the ground or have their heads taken off before these spineless white twits realise what a mess they are making of the game?

A bit annoyed there Rip?

Couldnt have put it better myself.

No matter what decision an umpire makes, someone is always going to be put offside, but theres just so many decisions you can let go. Its getting beyond a joke. A saw a st kilda player get a knee to the head in last nights game and they got nothing, its stupid.

its not an easy job.. im not sticking up for them, im the first one to complain about umpires, but it will never be used as an excuse...

with 3 umpires on the field, 24 umps running around a week,
theres too much room for inconsistencies..

there will always be alot of bad decisions, nothing can be done about it, but just a little bit of consistency would make the game alot better...but it will never happen.. its going to be an issue as long as the game lasts, and as long as sport lasts when an umpire is apart of the game...

its easy to blame an umpire for a loss... isnt it?

Harvey's knee injury from last night probably occured due to the umpire refusing to blow his whistle for a ball up

Agreed Kretchy.

I watched a replay of our game last night (as I always do when we finally win a game ;)), and there is no doubt that the failure of the umpire to blow the whistle for a ball up straight away may have cost Robert Harvey a year of football.

For goodness sake, when it is perfectly clear to all that the ball cannot get out, blow the whistle and bounce the bloody ball. Harvey was gang tackled by three players immediately upon picking up the ball. There was even a blatant high tackle missed but that isn't my problem. My issue is why the umpire had to wait over 5 - 10 seconds to blow the whistle. There was no chance at all that the ball was going to get out. So bounce it!

They have modified the holding the ball rule so that you can not dive on the ball and not release it. I'm sure this was to keep the game free flowing. Then why must they let ugly packs develop? It is in these pack situations where injuries can and will occur.

As soon as the ball can't get out, blow the whistle and bounce the ball.

I won't even start to discuss the inconsistency of the holding the ball and the holding the man rules amongst the umpires.

It's just such a shame that career threatening injuries have to occur for points to be raised.
