here is a cut & pasted worksheet on linear equations that I gave to my year 9 class.
the best score wins a chocolate bar. if there is a tie, I'll use my roulette wheel on my iphone to get the winner.
Year 9 Term 1 Extension Lesson – Footy
1. A goal is worth 6 points and a behind is worth 1 point. Write a linear equation (like 3x-2=5) which will calculate the points scored by one team in a game of footy.
2. In round 1 Fremantle scored 17 goals and 14 behinds, while Collingwood kicked 5 goals and 16 behinds. How many points did they each score?
3. How much did Fremantle win by?
4. Michael Barlow had 12 kicks and 17 handballs. Each kick is worth 3 points and a handball is worth 2 points in fantasy footy. How many points did he get from his disposals (kicks & handballs)?
5. Aaron Sandilands had 13 more handballs than kicks. He had 19 disposals. How many kicks did he have?
6. Nat Fyfe had 64 fantasy points, but only played ¾ of the game. How many points would he have scored if he had played the whole game and continued at the same scoring rate?
7. Hayden Ballantyne scored 3 goals and one behind on the night. How many points (not just behinds) would he score in the season (not including finals) if he scored at the same rate and played all 22 games?
8. Ryan Crowley had 16 disposals at an efficiency of 81.25%. This means that 81.25% of his disposals were effective. How many effective disposals did he have?
9. Stephen Hill had the following statistics: kicks=16(3 pts), handballs=9(2 pts), marks=2(2 pts), Free kick against=1(-3pts), goals=1(6 pts), behind=1(1 pt). What was his fantasy footy score?
10. Do you support the Freo Dockers? If not, why not? Would you like a good report from Mr S?
I got a good response from the kids.
cheers
