Not sure how I am going to be able to cope!!
When I moved house in 2002, I went without Foxtel for 4 days...bloody torture! The aerial on the roof wasn't pointing in the right direction, and having had cable TV since 1995, I couldn't handle it.

I'm not spoilt am I? :D

BTW...June 16th for my digital conversion... :(

Had it since Thursday and I love it so far. The picture and sound quality is so much better and News Active is handy (though bigger screens WOULD be better). Watched the Bulldogs vs Sharks NRL match and had a play around with Sports Active and I tell you its going to fanastic for AFL matches.

Two questions:

1.) Can you pick up the digital feed for SBS, 2,7,9 and 10 through your Foxtel?

2.) For ESPN and Fox sports, is the Soccer and other sports telecast in widescreen, when you get your digital installed?

HOLD THE BUS .........

I am a current Foxtel Cable Subscriber, last week when I called about getting upgraded I was booked in on August 20th - I was not happy but at least I had a booking.

Today I received a call from Foxtel asking if I was interested in taking part in a trial of "self-installing" my own Foxtel Digital Service.

I was told that I would get all the components I need plus detailed instructions, help desk telephone support etc. I am technically minded so I could not see much wrong with this so I agreed to take part in the trial.

Then she tells me the upgrade package will be getting delivered by courier to my home address TOMORROW !!

After I picked myself up she then tells me because I am self-installing I do not have to pay the $50 installation fee.

I still cannot see anything wrong with this system and I will report back how the 'self-instal' process goes.

So if you are waiting for an installation waaaaaaaaaaaaay in the future. Cross your fingers.

I wonder if this was offered because I had a cable installation

The return path is just a telephone cable I think.

I had Sky Digital in the UK and it didn't have many cords out the back.

It had the one from satellite. Another one to go to the TV and a telephone cable connected to the wall.

1) SBS is the only one you can get currently. I like it cause you get the Eastern States feed so I can watch EPL half an hour earlier.

2) From what I have seen even though FoxSports is widescreen most of the stuff is still not broadcast in it at all, which is a shame.

Have to work out the best way to watch it given I can change the aspect ratio on the fox and on the TV.

Yet only 2 weeks ago when I moved house, they told me I had to wait till May 24th to get it transferred over. I plugged the unit in at the new house to the existing foxtel outlet etc, and it worked. But foxtel cut it off and said that it has to all be checked by a technician because if something went wrong I'd be up for the $300 to replace the box.

Thanks to the Seimens Thiess subcontractors once again, I only had to wait 5 days for them to fast track the install rather than wait 6 weeks for foxtel to do it. And seeing as I arranged my install at the new place, I got foxtel to drop the install charge off my bill - even though they still have to pay the contractor.

I've got 9, 2 and SBS digital feeds via foxtel, but 7 and 10 haven't signed a rebroadcast agreement yet.

Mine comes up with no agreement signed for all channels except SBS. Have you got Satellite or cabel as I have satellite?

Another thing to watch out for is that I have a steel framed house and they need to put an extra bracket or something to make it work which is a one off charge of $28

They were also going to trial a new system whereby instead of running cable from the phone line they would trial a new remote control system. For soem reason this wouldn't work at my place so he ran the cable through the roof.

I've got the same thing & I have satellite. I think it's only here in Adelaide where we only have SBS at the moment. Perhaps they are having to negotiate for the feed with the particular stations here in Adelaide because of the time difference to the Eastern States whereas they can just beam SBS in live because it's same thing all over Australia (and thank god they do for the live Footy!)

My Foxtel Self Install uses a wireless transmitter / receiver combo to send phone data between the setop box and the telephone.

Installation was too easy !!!

I've got cable. So there must be different agreements for satellite v cable customers for the retransmission of the digital FTA feeds.

I had to remind myself yesterday that I get 2 FBO movies in my monthly plan. I didn't use them for the first month that was a waste. Looks like we'll trial the service this week and use up the 2 for this months and see how it all goes.

I'm always using the Sky News Active thingy, and when someone asks "Why do you keep on watching that?"

And I say - "Because I can!":D

But I have a slight problem - my Sky News active background started out Blue, but my brother used his remote to access the Active, and now the background is black. And now I can't change the background back to the blue. Does anyone know how to fix this?
