No player is more upbeat about throwing himself back into the fray than forgotten small forward Lincoln McCarthy.
"The pain was never really excruciating, so I suppose I never thought I was (going to have to retire)," he said. "It was just always there for a while, and I was thinking 'when is this going to go away?' "But I never really got too down about it, even when I was doing all the rehab. "There are such great blokes around this footy club that it's hard to get down. We're pretty lucky that we're in a club like we are."

Yes…. This one could the BP of this year… the Quiet Achiever….

There have been some very positive reports about him this pre season from players and coaches alike.
described as a mercurial type who has a good defensive game but can take a big mark and handy around goals.
of course this is all conjecture until he shows us something on the field. Hoping he will develop into a pocket dynamo ala Chappy.
Burbury is another I have high hopes for and see one of these getting early games especially whilst Motlop recovers from his injury.

You do know you've probably sent some of the Dramas Queens into cardiac arrest by bumping up this thread don't you ?

Hopefully he has an injury free year and gets some regular senior games.Could be an ideal replacement for a certain player now at Tullamarine Airport [dare not mention the name or the bear will arise]

Coming off a lost season we can dare to dream. Should get a few senior appearances. Hope he shows enough (or better) at senior level to silence the DQ's.

It is not conjecture to those of us who have seen him in the VFL do just what is written above.

Agree with you Rabbi, have seen some good signs also but was referring if he could show something in the AFL it would go some way in replacing Chappy

I'll temper my enthusiasm here. In the past few years, we've had Caddy/GHS/maybe Murdoch (2013), Smedts (2012), Hunt...maybe Brown (2011). It's great to read that he's tracking well, but let's take the preseason hype for what it is. Looking forward to seeing him in action in the NAB games and 6-10 AFL games would be a great resumption to his career.

Id like to see 12 -16 games myself BUT i'd take whatever he gets in reality…..

I like what I read about McCarthy. Seems just what we need down forward.

Someone who has leg speed, can take a grab, kick goals and will add defensive pressure.

I think we could do with some more forward defensive pressure. As good as we have been this one area we could improve on I believe. Mots, as good as he has been and as quick as he is - is ok with forward defensive pressure but it is not one of his biggest assets IMO.

If we could get Motlop, McCarthy and Murdoch - and maybe even Bundy - adding a lot of forward pressure we could hold the ball in the forward line better and force even more turn overs when the opposition brigs the ball out of defence.

If McCarthy can get fit and add to the mix I would be very happy indeed.

Add to our side a decent ruckman, a fit Hawkins, a better midfield and a faster pressure adding forward line and we would be a gun side again. Sure a lot of sides could say this but GFC just needs a better run with injury and few younger players to stand up this season and we will be the real deal.

Midfield is the key then the forward line set up. But I will take either at this stage.

i remember the pre season report that tenace was burning the house down.

And what exactly does that have to do with the prospects of Lincoln McCarthy?

Cheerie McGrumblebum has to rain on the potential success that anyone might have.
Its just his way.
