Just heard the news.

I have little time for the Liberal Party but he was a genuine good, thoughtful and fair man. A bloke closer to the Labour Party ideals than Crean's mob is today. From what I've heard he was quite a character too, not minding a smoke, a drink and always ready with lively quote or two.

And, as a cinema lover, I can thank Gorton for revitalising our moribund film industry during his time in office.

This is indeed a very sad day for Australia. He starred in the movie "Don's party" and his performance on "the Norman Gunstan show" was unforgettable.

RIP Mr.Gorton.

The only genuinely "liberal' prime minister the Liberal Party ever had ...

RIP John Gorton - a great Australian.

Had he not been so thoroughly shafted by his own party in 1971, he would have beaten Whitlam in 72 and the course of recent Australian Politics may well be very different from what we have today.

cheers
