Rumour Former Port player involved in motor vehicle incident

Edit: Wait hang on, the comparisons to Impey and stuff have gotten me confused - is it alleged he was not sober when this happened or not? If it's just he's a terrible driver, then eh, if it's him drink / drug driver then yeah, a bigger deal but one ultimately on him now.

Story I heard last week was he told the club he was affected by sleeping pills and not thinking/acting straight as a result, but that he accepted he'd done the wrong thing leaving the scene and everything was sorted out.

Recently retired star Jack Watts ‘charged’ over car crash incident
Days before officially hanging up the boots, Port Adelaide’s Jack Watts was allegedly involved in an incident that’s landed him in hot water. Recently retired AFL star and number one draft pick Jack Watts has found himself in trouble with the law.

The Port Adelaide player officially hung up the boots on his playing career on September 24, but is in hot water over an alleged incident which unfolded on September 20.

Watts, 29, is set to face serious charges after failing to report a crash and driving without due care, according to Channel 7 reporter Mark Mooney.
“Police outlined the allegations that Watts was driving a Toyota Kluger at 2pm on Coral Sea Road and failed to stop after colliding with a parked Mazda Sedan,” Mooney said. “Watts will have to front court. But a short time ago his manager told 7News the collision was minor and he will be defending the charges.”
He has been summoned to appear in court at a later date.

lol, set to face serious charges.

Has been charged with driving without due care.

"It is an offence to drive without due care or attention or without reasonable consideration for other persons using the road [see Road Traffic Act 1961 (SA) s 45(1)]. As no penalty is stated for a basic offence, the penalty is a fine of up to $2,500 [see s 164A(2)]. In addition, a licence disqualification penalty may apply"

Depends what you call minor. He damaged the back door, front door and the front wheel was smashed in. He drove off. Also would not answer the door when police came to take samples of his damaged car. Owners reported to PAFC on the day because they just wanted their car fixed and had video evidence of the accident. They just wanted him to turn himself in to sort out insurance. The day the club announced his retirement, the owners of the car had still not had any contact with Jack. So that's at least 4 days before he reported to police and by then, blood alcohol could no longer be tested.

Nothing on CCTV? I heard that they can use CCTV to pick up on criminal activity

Maybe Byron Pickett was driving, and Jack was just covering for him.

This might come across a little cryptic for newer Big Footy posters, so i shall explain.

When Graham Johncock drunkenly pinballed his car through Henley Beach all those years ago, the theory doing the rounds on the Adelaide Board was that Johncock wasn't actually driving, but Byron Pickett was behind the wheel, with Johncock taking the heat to cover for his mate.

Wouldn't answer the door when the Cops came knocking and didn't self report until 4 days later.. did they try the door bell?

Why the hell would they visit PAFC to work out insurance issues?

I never knew you were supposed to go to someone's place of work after a automobile accident.

You learn something new everyday..

They contacted them to see if they could get Jack to contact them. He was avoiding them and police. He wouldn't answer the door and the quicker you can get their insurance details, the quicker you get your car fixed. They had to wait 5 days before he contacted them to apologise and sort out insurance.

Sorry, but I take anything a Crow supporter and the Crap Adelaide Media says about anything to do about Port with a pinch of horse manure!

Dumb move.

Simpler and quicker to contact 7 news.

Elspeth would have sniffed him out in hours.

If she couldn't find him, Smithson would of been happy to hide in his bin for days.

They didn't want this leaked to the media and weren't the ones who leaked it.
