There could be a few different reasons ruckman behind him arent getting a game. Perhaps the coaches have given him things that need to be done in the seconds first. Perhaps they still believe that if they can get Ottens to play like 7 good games this year, and 2 of them are in finals we will win the Flag and Blake is needed to curb the influence of some of the big boys in the finals. I think he has been very good in some big games Blake at ensuring the opposition ruckman doesnt dominate when they very well could being quality players.

I dont think he is a good player, but we have a team of guns. Someone has to be a sputnik, a ******, a fair unc. I could give you an unc from every team in the league. Someone you just think, you lucky kid, but I guess you have a crack!

So I have confidence that in this season, if the reserve boys can do what is required and become better at both the offense and defense, they will get a go. There will be a team, when Ottens has a wee rest, an injury occurs, or they just force themselves in. When it happens, they need to take the opportunity.

Agree, some on this board will never see that or admit it. Why expect him to get kicks around the ground when we have such an awesome running midfield that he helps set-up anyway.

I also remember one occasion where he backed into a pack and took a hit to get the ball, which is the sort of thing I chide Blake for not doing more often. I thought his game today was fairly decent.

there is clear evidence in this thread as to how low a standard has been set for a one dimensional player

if and that is a big if, we played a decent ruckman against a team that will be last and has minimal quality we would see why genuine football followers make the comments re blake that they do

he taps. don't get excited about the rest of his game

anyway see the mummy's game, he has been in the seniors for 1.5 years and is miles ahead of blake, but i understand blake tap tap taps

He did it a couple of times, almost took some good contested marks. He threw his body into packs.

Unfair to compare him to Cox, who's one of the best ruckmen ever to play the game. Unfair to compare him to Ottens too who was probably marginally off AA ruckman only a couple of years ago.

As long as he's giving Ablett, Bartel, Selwood, etc first use of the ball his position is probably safe. I certainly wouldn't take him out and replace him with a worse ruckman who isn't going to win the HOs but might get another half dozen posessions a game. Anyone who thinks that sacrificing the clearances for an additional two possessions a quarter is worthwhile is probably not thinking clearly about the problem facing the coaches.

no we expect a 'tap ruckman' to actually do a little more than tap the ball in the ruck

maybe get a kick, maybe 5-10 possessions and have a presence around the ground

not asking for much, especially against richmond

have you ever watched Sandilands play? He doesn't kick it either, handballs it off at any opportunity.
